Been here 3 times. Food has been so-so, service indifferent to almost rude, and somewhat overpriced. Won't go again.

Despite the less-than-wonderful reviews on this site, three of us found everything wonderful last night: the service, placing us at a quieter rear table, and delicious meals, from the sunflower-seed crusted tuna to the lamb rack and Sunday special tortellini. A delightful experience!

Just had lunch there and the service was absolutely aweful. It started with it taking forever for our waiter to take our drink order as he was passing by our table heading to help people who arrived after Us. We did not receive a bread basket as the others did and no water refills. After about 40 minutes and finally spotting our waiter we asked when our lunch was coming. He was defensive and brought out our cold and I mean cold pizza. As we were leaving we said goodbye and he couldn't muster up a word. To bad, used to be one of my favorite places. Not going back.

There is a reason why this place has been around for over 30 years! The food and service is amazing. They use the best ingredients and support local farmers. I love how every time I go in there, there is an amazing new, delicious special. Not only do they have an amazing dinner, but a great brunch and lunch menu as well.

We had our Mill Valley day after wedding picnic catered by Piazza D'Angelo - perfect box lunches in the redwoods at Old Mill Park. Rodney Davis, the catering manager was beyond helpful and worked with me to make the end of our wedding weekend a success. The food was delicious, perfectly packaged and enjoyed by all.

we had dinner at D'Angelo tonight. Their salads were very creative. (a tad too much vinegar)..and the pasta is fabulous. They have half portions which was enough for me. Great environment...table cloths, tables far apart, very quiet for a busy restaurant. Excellent service. VERY inviting. A great value. Very inviting. Packed so make a reservation.

Good, solid Italian food. The food is always flavorful and well seasoned. There's lot of variety on the menu. Very friendly place. This place has been a fixture in Mill Valley for a long time. I've eaten here about a dozen times and the food and service has always been excellent. It's also fun to sit at the bar and have a glass of wine and dinner.

Last week I took an elderly friend to D'Angelo, her choice because of easy access. Since we arrived late, well after lunchtime, the restaurant was not crowded at all. We got water on request; my glass was never refilled. I checked carefully before I ordered iced tea (no lemon, no sugar, no fruit flavor) and was assured I would get plain iced tea. The fruity stuff that arrived was undrinkable and I sent it back. We both ordered beet salads with frisee lettuce and goat cheese. The cheese was delicious, creamed to an excellent texture and seasoned beautifully. The frisee had not been adequately washed, so was unpleasantly gritty. The dessert we shared, a delicious almond cake with ice cream on the side, somewhat made up for the bad tea and dirty lettuce. I wouldn't go back soon unless I had a very good reason and there were no alternative.

I wanted ravioli, but no ravioli on the menu. Our waiter had the worse perfume. I literally gagged every time he came by. Drinks were ok. Waiter made a mistake overcharging us. Pasta was not that impressive. I could of made better pasta at home. Last time I go there. In a sea of good restaurant in that area, I would go to another place. I mean REALLY? you don't have ravioli in your menu, and you call yourself an Italian restaurant.

We ordered pizza and ravioli. The pizza was perfect, about the ravioli - the dish was small and tasted ok, not something to write about. The service was productive and fast. The acoustics of the place is poor, the place was crowded and noisy in a distracting way, under which we almost couldn't hear each other.

I would personally like to thank the obnoxious owners of this over rated Mill Valley staple for sending me to a much better Italian restaurant. Good thing for them there's not a competing Chevys within walking distance because they would put this mediocre over 60's single sene out of business. On a Saturday evening I checked in with one of the owners for a table for 3. At that time there were many open tables but since the rest of my party was not present I decide to be a good patron and wait. I asked the owner if it would a problem to be seated in 45 minutes to which he said unequivocally no problem. 45 minutes later with my party in tow I was informed I was at the top of the list. 30 minutes after that I walked out and was treated to a wonderful Italian meal down the street at Frantoio. Skip the over 60 singles scene and mediocre stoufers Italian and go elsewhere

I read a lot of these reviews and I can't believe they're talking about the same restaurant that we had dinner at tonight. Two stars are pretty generous - it had a bad, pretentious overly Marin-y kind of feel from the first moment we sat down. I was with the g/f and my teenage daughter. We were greeted immediately and asked if we wanted drinks other than water. We had a rough night the night before and declined any additional drinks - you could tell the demeanor change from the server immediately, like we were cutting into his paycheck or something. And the place is loud - like annoyingly loud. Anyways, on with the food... They have burrata - we love burrata and who doesn't, right? You love the rich, creamy, soft and gooieness of burrata. This was a firm, solid piece of cheese that was a poor, poor excuse for something to be called burrata. We split a Caesar salad - easy right? Meh - limp, overdressed, too much cheese (like 1:1 with the lettuce . We also split the TAGLIATELLE BOLOGNESE - this was by far the WORST representation of the night and it actually made me angry. The pasta was hard, gummed together and tasted like it went from a bag/box into a pot of water, then stored in the fridge and then microwaved for service. This is really a Milly Valley "institution"? The bolognese was forgettable - believe it or not, for an exponentially better pasta dish you'd be better off driving a few minutes away to Tiburon and visit Don Antonio for fresh, homemade pasta. My daughter had the Margherita pizza - that's pretty hard to screw up; but somehow, it still wasn't to expectations. I saw them using a pizza oven; but, it was a soggy mess. Just such a huge disappointment. Do yourself a favor and spend your money and your time elsewhere...

Came in a little after the lunch hour after spending the morning on the Dipsea. The restaurant is beautiful, in a great location in central Mill Valley. The bread starter was excellent, especially the olive oil and spices dipping sauce; I would definitely have purchased a tub of the stuff to bring home if they offered. We were in a large group, so we got one of every pizza to split. All were great; straight out of the pizza oven, hot and delicious. Didn't try the pasta or salads, so can't comment, but we enjoyed our experience. We passed on dessert, though it looked good. Overall, would recommend.

Had flounder, Cesar salad, chianti, an Italian red and bread w/pesto. Got sick after 25 minutes of dinner! No bueno! Last time. Star only out of historical gracefulness. I must have been here 20 times...it's not a destination place to eat, I suggest Vasco's down the street from now on!

This is our favorite Gluten Free restaurant in Marin. We have some serious allergies on our family, and this is the one place we have never had issues with. I travel the world, and am spoiled with the world's best dining. This is an authentic Italian family run restaurant, complete with all you would expect.

I had a caterer bail 2 days before an event and Rodney at D'Angelos jumped in to save the day. He was friendly and professional, and got me a proposal within a few hours. My fancy Marin caterer took 10 days to get a proposal to me (4 days before the event) and went crazy when I checked with the other hosts and needed to make revisions (this was a networking event for work and I had a firm budget). Rodney took the time to talk to me on the phone to make sure we both understood the proposal and the nature of the event. The other guy wanted to communicate through text messages. I love D'Angelos and their service exceeds expectations!!

We love this restaurant and have been coming here for all kinds of events: brunch, lunch, dinner with family, business colleagues, friends. I so enjoy the experience that I have also used them to cater professional and personal events. What is so great? Let me tell you: - they accommodate numerous dietary limitations with a smile and more importantly, with serious follow through - Celiacs can be happy about their choices here! - the food is delicious - the wait staff is professional and delightful - the Italian food is authentic and delicious. If you are missing a Bolognese sauce like grandma used to make, you have no farther to go! - I am not sure if this is their policy, but when we had a very young child, I noticed that the food came exceptionally quickly, as if they knew that kids need to eat asap (which was wonderful!).

I have to admit I approached Piazza with a bit of trepidation given some of the other reviews. But given that our first and second choices were slammed on a Saturday night (in Mill Valley? who knew?!) we took the plunge. And I'm glad we did. First off, 5 stars to our wonderful server Nytasha, one of the best ever. Thank you. Great bread to start, an nice Caesar, a pasta dish and a chef's special fish entree all split with my g/f. We were both very happy with our meal. Ambiance is fun! The crowd is very mixed and the place has a good energy to it. I wouldn't hesitate to return but we do want to try #1 and #2 first, ha, see above.... Management, take good care of Nytasha! She's really something special.

Overpriced, how can you get bolognese wrong? Love that they have gluten-free options. This place is cute and I thought I would give it a try as I was craving Italian, by myself for a doctor's appt in Marin, and hungry. The bar waitress barely acknowledged my presence and the food was really just ok. I give it 2 stars because for $17 for a plate of pasta and bolognese, it should be good if not phenomenal. It was a strange taste for bolognese and left me pretty dissatisfied to say the lease. Definitely not going back again.

Nice ambiance and I like the bar seating. Negatives: quality of food is about the same as Vasco for significantly higher prices. They both have the same location about similar levels of nicity so just don't get the pricing difference.

My family and I go there regularly. Their menu offers many tasty dishes; my favorites are their burrata appetizers ("Speciali") and the Zuppa di Pesce. For desert, try their Torta di Mandorle or the pistachio or almond ice cream.

Had dinner here last week and had a great experience. First of all loved the waiter he came from Italy near were my husbands family is from and he was fun to talk to. He gave us some suggestions which was helpful. The food is not your typical old style Italian (lasagna, cannelloni) which is refreshingt . It's hip, new, and innovative, we had an appetizer of Tuna Tartar, excellent, next my husband had the spaghetti with squid ink which he enjoyed. I had the fresh Opa and loved it.. To finish we had Panetone bread pudding, which was to die for. Overall a great and fun experience hope to get back soon and talk with our Italian waiter and maybe even be able to meet the chef. Plus there are a few more items on the menu we would like to try. Highly recommend!!!!!!

If you haven't been to this gem of a restaurant, make it a point to check it out! I have been many times and am always pleased with not only the beautiful setting, but the food is delicious and service is on point. At my most recent visit I had the fritto misto and burrata e zucca with butternut squash puree abs black truffle, both were culinary perfection. Our server, Walter, brings Italy to your table with his charm and knowledge of all things on the menu. He gave great recommendations of menu items and was attentive to all details. They make the best margherita pizza anywhere, delicious from the crust to the beautiful sauce and cheese. We also had the roasted veal tenderloin which was served with green lentils and grana padano fondue, delightful! From start to finish whether you are looking for a big night out or pizza and a cocktail this is Mill Valley's best spot to dine!

Another wonderful Italian place in Marin - and in my opinion the best in Mill Valley. The ambiance is warm and inviting, the staff is friendly and the food is great. The Carpaccio is a wonderful dish with lovely capers, drizzled oil and aged balsamic all topped with fresh Parmesan. And the pastas are fresh with a great balance of flavors. You really can't go wrong when you come here.

Quite easily the central hub of Mill Valley. You would expect that its success is a result of its location and nothing more. But that really isn't true. The food is excellent. Local ingredients, skillfully executed dishes, service that makes you smile. Really i was impressed overall. My only complaint is that the sheer volume that walks through the door slows down service a tad, but it's more than made up for.

I can see why this place has been around so long - the food is great, the place is clean and inviting, and the staff very friendly. My wife had the Chicken Panini with house salad and it was awesome. The pesto was great and the caramelized onions were to die for! I had the Fettuccini with Mushrooms and Pancetta and it was delicious. The complementary bread was tasty. The service was great - never had to ask for anything. All in all I highly recommend this place if you're looking for tasty Italian I'm or near Mill Valley.

went back several times after a long hiatus, and I'm now a solid fan. the secondi, while tasty, are still not as good as the house-made pasta. but they've expanded their 'specials' menu, which always has a few gems. and, I like that their entire menu takes advantage not only of the season, but also of products from local purveyors. I know, that whole 'locavore' thing is getting tired, but they actually do it without fanfare. and the cocktails. are. so. good. best to sit at the bar so that you have better access.

Hard to believe this rest. or any would serve day old bread: that was our experience yesterday. And the little dinky pesto serving "bowl" is only good for one person, not 4 as they might intend. Way to increase the bottom line? You bet. Pretty chintzy. And the tagliatelle with meat sauce just didn't have the punch or taste you expect, very dry with little flavor. And forget about getting cheese on the table that you can ladle into. If you like more, don't expect to get a lot. Solid Italian food? Sorry, you have to catch a plane. Service was, at best, lacking. No smiles, not coming around to find out if we were pleased; if anything service person looked tired and gave off an attitude of "I want to go home".

This is 2 1/2 stars. I got a special dish that cost me well over $10 for a small cubed pork belly with glazed apple and caramelized onions. Pork belly was cooked perfectly, but everything else with it made it taste like pork belly... dessert! Too sweet and not good. To take the taste away, I tried my boyfriend's pasta in which was much better. Maybe they're better in the pasta area. Service: My rating was mostly affected by the service. My server had a big attitude! Got our dish wrong and blame it on us. "you said that you wanted this though!". After, the server checked up on me and asked how my pork belly dish was. I reported that I didn't like the pork belly dish because nothing on this plate blended together well and taste bad. Server gives yet another attitude. The manager comes up to us and reviewed our dining experience, but specifically the pork belly. I told him the same thing and he was very kind and understanding about it. He explained that this dish was an experimental dish and is going through the process of pass or no pass test. We finished off our conversation nicely and just when they manager and the server was about to leave, the server stopped the Manger just foot steps away from our table and said out loud to the manager, "Well, we had compliments from 3 people last night about the dish." First off, are you serious?! No, I STILL won't change my mind of how I think about the dish even when you say everyone else likes it. I don't care if Gordon Ramsay or the o'mighty God himself likes it, I don't like it, and that's how it's going to be. It's not like I can genetically change my taste buds to fit everyone else's. In the end, the manager didn't charge us the pork belly. We didn't expect him to do such a thing and we appreciate it a lot for understanding. Thanks to him, our experience wasn't that bad.

I've had the pleasure of dining here twice. Both experiences were fabulous. Bottom line - the homemade pasta is fantastic. It is light and makes the sauce paired with the dish even more amazing. I've had the bolognese and the parsley fettucine with mushrooms and housemade bacon (yum!). The margherita pizza was wonderfully thin-crusted and chewy with awesome sauce. I've tried a couple of the risotto specials - cheese cauliflower with sausage (outstanding) and squid ink with calamari (amazing). The calimari was so tender. The pistachio cake is my favorite, but the tiramisu is a close second. The owners, managers and chef are all great people as well.

The service was appalling, could hardly drag the waitress away from talking to her friends several tables away. The food was inedible,my venison tasted like 2 day old stew but was described as 'medallion of venison',and told to me by the same disinterested waitress that it would be medium rare.It was a dreadful muddle of mush, possibly had been a medallion in a previous life.My husband's pasta with ragu was slightly metallic tasting and my daughter's salmon was hideously overcooked. The manager was arrogant and argued with me when I told him of our dissatisfaction, all in all an awful and expensive dining experience. I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

These guys catered my son's Bar Mitzvah for about 100 people. They were fantastic! They had a sit-down meal for the adults which was timed and served perfectly, and a buffet for the kids which was also great because they brought them up by table to get their food. It was so well coordinated that I never even looked at the kids buffet to see because everyone was so happy. We had caesar salad to start, then a pasta course with a veal ragu sauce and then salmon. The food was great and the service also. They did the bar as well. I would use them again for sure.

Came here with a big crew to celebrate birthdays. Way to ruin a birthday dinner! Should have read the reviews before booking the reservation. The waiter was snarky and rude (mustached, older italian guy), told us 2 of our our short rib dishes were fine "that's how short rib is" (2/3 blubber, 1/3 rubber), and made a face when we asked for the check before even looking at dessert. Most of the dishes were ok to good, but very pricey. With so many other choices in town and a short cab drive away, this place can't afford to have a waiter with attitude.

Food is consistently mediocre but we go anyway due to location. Today's lunch had a shard of metal two inches long - gross. They took off the fish from the bill but nothing else until I further enquiries then took off a salad. Nobody at this place actually gives a shit. Chef came over to say well hey that can happen sometimes . Fortunately there are increasingly more options in own.

This was my first, and very likely last, time at D'Angelo's and it was one of the most memorable meals I've had in years. I will never forget the repulsive flavors and textures of the oily pasta dish I was served. The rancid smells coming from the pizzas my dining companions received were quite impressive. There was a rotten garlic aroma interlaced with a fetid porcine stench that conjured an image of a roadkilled hog decomposing somewhere on the shoulder of the road in Gilroy. In short, the food was disgusting. I made the best effort I could to eat what I was served because I didn't want to offend my dining companions, who had invited me and were paying for the meal. However, it was quite an effort to get through the meal. All of us were smiling at each other uneasily as we forced ourselves to put the best face on the situation. It would have been comical if it wasn't for the horrible flavors happening in our mouths. Our waiter was quite good, attentive, personable. The restaurant was busy and the other patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves, so maybe they only botched all of the dishes that were brought to our table? In summary, I didn't know that there were restaurants in this day and age and in this kind of tony Marin setting that would brazenly serve such terrible food. It's true that you learn something new every day.

These people know Italian cuisine! The atmosphere and location are perfect and the dishes are always artfully presented. Hand made pasta is always a good choice here and the pizza is second to none. Paolo is a gifted entrepreneur with a passion for authentic Italian. Well done!

What a crap-hole of a place! Please apologize for my crap-hole of a mouth, but this place closed unexpectedly 1 hour earlier than their website had indicted. I had already ordered an uber and had to cancel, which put my five star reputation at risk! Have you seen my photo? I have five-star looks, so I cannot risk putting my five star reputation at risk. Piazza D'Angelo catered an event I recently had and I was impressed with their service and food. The pre-event coordination was very smooth and they clearly/professionally handled any food and financial questions I had. The event went really well and I cannot compliment the food service enough. It was superb. The food was all high quality and it tasted wonderfully. They even individually labeled the lunch boxes with everyone's name on it. It looked extremely professional and really eased everyone finding their lunch. I've been to Piazza D'Angelo for lunch, dinner and drinks various other times. My experience has always been good but their event catering really wowed me.

We ate lunch from 2 to 3 pm and ordered lunch special. The Ceaser salad was OK. The cheese, walnut and fava bean salad was good. The pasta was just OK. I would avoid the chicken/pasta shells with scant marinara sauce. The squash ravioli had odd flavors. The bread was great and ambiance was very nice. Service was good.

Some highs, some lows, but the word of the day is "bland." The chef needs some work on adding spices, acid, flavor. The bean-pasta soup, swordfish, and ravioli all come to mind in this department. The fritto misto was delicious, perfectly cooked morsels of fried shrimp, calamari, and artichoke. It was served with a delectable basil aioli. I could have bathed in the stuff! Dessert was a super berry sorbet with awesome biscotti. Mixologist poured a mean cocktail, the Petrusinu. The drink consisted of gin, st Germain, parsley syrup, and lime. Would most definitely come back for happy hour (everyday 3-6 in the bar) for this cocktail and others!

Every visit I have made to Piazza D'Angelo I am impressed with the extremely friendly welcome and service from the staff. The house made pastas are all exquisite. The cocktails here are excellent. The pizzas are amazing from the crust to the sauce.

Came here the other night for dinner. Was a little skeptical based on the reviews but it wasn't too crowded and looked like a nice place to eat. We were greeted and seated promptly without a reservation. The menu had good variety and the service was friendly and attentive. We split a pasta which was delicious as well as a pizza which was very tasty. I'm from the east coast and it reminded me of an authentic Italian restaurant in New York which is sometimes hard to find on the west coast. The ambiance and layout of this restaurant is very elegant and inviting yet it keeps a somewhat casual feel. Definitely my kind of place. I'll be back here soon for sure.

Friendly crowd where strangers mix comfortably. Seating is always fast and pleasant. Great drinks. Yummy meatballs and pizza at Happy Hour. Huge menu with good choices. Best Tagliatele Bolognese ever.

I came in for late lunch before going to Sonoma. We sat at the bar and got a Margherita Pizza and glasses of wine. The bartender was very friendly. She was attentive without being overbearing. I'd come back for Happy Hour - not sure if I'd come back for a full meal. The Margherita Pizza had a good balance of sauce and cheese. But the crust was just a tad too thick and chewy. The sauce was a bit bland.

Came in for an early dinner with my siblings. Something must have drastically changed. I am no stranger to this place, but the service was slow, 4 different servers popped in on us. It took over 20 minutes to get a glass of wine. The menu has fewer items. The pasta fungi I ordered was horribly bland. My sister had the chicken that obviously starts as frozen. There seemed to be much confusion with the staff. Sadly, the bread and garlic/pesto dip was the best part of the meal. Hope they get their " mojo" back. It used to he a great place to eat!!

There's a reason why this restaurant has been a fixture in Mill Valley for over thirty years. It serves solid Italian food in a wonderful atmosphere. As we walked in, Domenico, one of the owners, immediately greeted us and warmly escorted us to our table. The place was packed, noisy with families and couples. The menu provides some great, classic Italian options. The market organic vegetable soup is the best minestrone I've had in Marin. It was delicious, fresh, and satisfying. The Cesare and the Insalata Di Fagioli were decent as well. We were in the mood for fish and I ordered the salmon all'aneto, topped with black olive pate over celery root puree. I also tried a bite of the zuppa di pesce, which was incredibly flavorful and rich. And don't skip out on dessert! The tiramisu was superb with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and decadent mascarpone custard, presented in a glass. All in all, a great evening.

A really strange experience through and through. I flip flopped between feeling sorry for just how socially awkward our waiter was and a bit offended at how we were being treated. If I am spending ~$30 a plate, I want a pleasant experience to accompany the food. We chose Piazza D'Angelo for my birthday dinner because they are open late and offer gluten free options and one of the people in the party is gluten-free. To start with, we ordered a salad to share and gluten-free bread. The waiter told us it would take 10 minutes for the bread to come out, in a tone that I interpreted to mean "are you sure you still want that?" to which we said that it was fine, and yes we'll have it please. We were taking our time eating the salad and the waiter came over and took my friend's plate. While she was not done with it, she didn't say anything -though I am not sure how much she could have said as the plate was already taken and under something else. Our waiter came to take my plate, but I stopped him and told him that I was not done with it. He grabbed my plate anyway and I took my fork and started eating off of it. Like I said, this was an awkward dinner - he is holding on to my plate and I am taking bites of it as slowly as I can. He stood there watching me while I continued to eat. Then said something like "what? were you waiting for me to come over to start eating?" I am not sure if this place has a problem with people eating slowly, but I also can't imagine how my wanting to eat slower has any negative impact on them. The restaurant was not full and was not closing any time soon. It was so uncomfortable that I started laughing and couldn't stop. Eventually I finished the salad while he was still standing there and he took the plate. The gluten-free bread meanwhile had not come out, so we reminded the waiter that we still wanted it. My boyfriend and I shared the ravioli and the Cornish hen. I thought the hen was well cooked and I liked the honey sauce it came with, though my boyfriend did not like it. I thought the ravioli was completely bland but he somehow found it "tasty", so it's a toss up on the actual food. The kitchen got gluten-free friend's order mixed up, but eventually everyone else was okay enough with their food. The gluten-free bread came as we were almost done eating, and it was cold, so I'm not so sure how it took that long to come out (I get it, they were probably defrosting it, but it should at least be kind of warm if it was defrosting for 40 minutes). Because we had said it was my birthday, they gave us a free dessert which was sweet of them, but not enough to offset all the weirdness. We ended up getting the tiramisu which we liked. At the end, we were pretty surprised that we were still charged for the gluten-free bread. I don't mind dropping some dough on delicious food, but our party (5 peeps) all left feeling pretty disappointed on what we chose to spend it on.

I've eaten here at least 8 times and each time my waiter was great, and very accommodating of my Paleo diet. If want them to swap something out and put in another food they'll happily do it for me - which these days is becoming rare. You can't go wrong with their meat dishes like the roasted chicken, or if they have it, lamb. I like that on the way to the lady's I can peek into the kitchen. Good wine list. It's a very quiet adult like place to eat - which I appreciate. They don't cater to kids or so-called hipsters.

Very cute Italian restaurant with seating inside and out. No wait at all. We sat outside and the patio and garden area was lovely in July! My special of Crusted Sole with capers and spinach was light and flavorful. My son's pizza was to his liking. The salmon dish my husband ordered was dry and flavorless, perhaps just over cooked. Next time he would pick another meal. Great atmosphere and wine list. I would go back and send my friends there.

My first time here. I have to say I am embarrassed for them, and disappointed. I expected to get an exceptional fine dining experience. My boss and I came I only to be served a bottle of mineral water we didn't order, looked past it. Soon after getting better seated I called upon to waiter to ask about a particular item, he couldn't explain or put into words what the dish was, regardless we proceeded to order a Pizza dish and Bolognese to eat family style. 15 minutes come and we are served the wrong pasta dish alone with out the pizza, we weren't sure, but caught our selfs after, they came by and picked up the dish and didn't even apologies. No manners, no respect, I get it, give them some slack because they are busy right? Or some would say. I called for the manager and they pushed me and denied my request rudely and kept on saying things were fine. I tell you, I've eaten at many premiere restaurants in San Francisco and silicone valley, way busier and have never experience such awful service. I think they make cheese cake factory look like a 5 star restaurant and I've only been there once. None the less... We uncomfortably continued on and waited for the correct dishes to come, granted the food came, and was exquisite, licked my knife clean. Manger person came over and asked if everything was ok, that he had heard that there was an issue, I explained to him what happened, he apologized, it made things better and actually began to think about dessert them which I had lost interest for. Before he left, both him and the waiter promised to discount the pasta and mineral water, in other words only charge for the pizza and anything ordered after that. They failed to keep their promise. I worked in fine dining in my teen years and my service in high end restaurants was better. People I worked for were much better about handling their foodies. They made it about the customer and it was their priority to give a feeling of coming back. The dessert and coffee ordered was superb, but the check came back with only the mineral water discounted, and not the pasta. It was on them, promise broke and it came off as a lie and dishonesty, their deal to not keep promises and make up for the uncomfortable experience. This was my first time here, and my last, so is my bosses.

For over 30 years, Piazza D'Angelo has been at the epicenter of Mill Valley's dining/nightlife scene. And I'm happy to report that the restaurant keeps getting better and better with age. They've got themselves a fancy, new chef - Andrea Giuliani. Man oh man, can this guy cook! Most everything on the menu is locally sourced, seasonal, fresh, yada yada yada. - and you can taste it in every bite. This isn't your grandma's trattoria. Sure, you can get pizza, spaghetti, and other Italian staples. But Piazza D'Angelo's menu is the closest thing Marin has to an a16, SPQR, or Perbacco. This is Italian food with a modern, California Cuisine twist. Instead of drowning the food in rich sauces and butter, the chef lets the natural flavors of the food speak for themselves. Case in point: the heirloom tomatoes with fresh burrata cheese and light olive oil and basil. It was the perfect starter. On my most recent visit for dinner, I had the Tonno (seared, herb-crusted ahi tuna steak, Venere rice, sun-dried tomato, capers, eggplant, basil, pickled red onion, and a red pepper sauce). It was to die for! I also took a few bites of my friend's Paccherini (pasta with Niman Ranch spicy sausage ragu amd Piacentino Ennese cheese). You could tell that both the pasta and the sauce were made in-house. Absolutely de-lish! I've had the Caesar here on previous visits, and it's also quite good. Not the best one in town, but it certainly hits the garlicy spot. And believe it or not, their hamburger is pretty damn good, too. Aside from the food, what really sets this place apart is the front of the house. Piazza D'Angelo is a family-run restaurant. On any given night, either Paolo, his brother Domenico, or their brother-in-law Natale are there to greet you, hug you, and make you feel like a VIP. These guys are like the mayors of Mill Valley - they know everyone, and everyone loves them. On my most recent visit, Paolo treated our table to a complimentary order of their latest menu special. It was this amazing swordfish served with figs, american black lumb caviar, pickled pearl onions, mint flowers, aged balsamic vinegar. We certainly didn't come in expecting something free, but the kind gesture was certainly appreciated. It's just another personal touch that you don't find at too many restaurants these days. If you're dining alone or with one other companion, I would recommend saddling up at D'Angelo's bar. It always lively and full of colorful local characters (many of whom are nightly regulars). The bartenders (Eddie and Chris) are friendly, know how to make a mean drink, and always remember your name. FYI - their cocktail program was recently revamped by Michael Mina's bar manager. So there are plenty of original libations to choose from. My personal favorite is the MariaRosa (Akvinta vodka, House made rosemary syrup, Domaine de Canton, and lemon). It's ten bucks, but it's totally worth it. Piazza D'Angelo is also great for hosting private events. I've used their back patio area for a number of cocktail parties. It's a great spot with plenty of pretty flowers, heat lamps, and can hold up to 40 - 50 people (standing). The restaurant always does a good job of working with my budget and providing tasty apps, desserts, and wines for everyone to enjoy. As you can tell by this long-winded review, I love this place. We're so lucky to have a restaurant like Piazza D'Angelo in our neighborhood.

This has been a life long favorite of mine in Mill Valley. It is known to all local Marinites as a place to go for high quality Italian food and a great, consistent experience. First the dipping sauce/oil with the bread is amazing - be careful not to eat so much bread and ruin your appetite- easier said than done. The TORTELLONI DELLA CASA is the best pasta dish on the menu hands down. I also really enjoy the FETTUCCINE CON FUNGHI E PANCETTA, the LAMB SHANK and the CHICKEN. The atmosphere is also great: has a nice bar, cozy seating, warm setting, small outdoor seating and even a retractable roof in the back (i think it still retracts on warm nights). Will always come back here.

The soft summer evening found us in Mill Valley, California, having dinner with our daughter and son-in-law, and our nephew-the-big-time-chef who was in the area on business. Really. He was. It was a serious buying trip with the photos to prove it - in the lettuce fields of California. There are a lot of places to go, but last minute ideas tend to mean you'll be aced out of some of the choice spots - in this case, the fall-back was a winner. Piazza D'Angelo is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the area, and one that I've written about before. The photo (on my blog, alas ) is my Branzino with seasonal vegetables and yes, those are edible flowers. Branzino, also known as Barramundi, is one of those fish that I would love to love. If I could find a place that could prepare it. Problem solved - Piazza D'Angelo did a smackdown job. This was not just beautiful to look at, but absolutely delicious. The vegetables were the best possible supporting players - each hitting the right notes as strong ensemble players. The fish, roasted, was perfect - all tender inside a crispy skin. The service at Piazza D'Angelo is always top-notch. Our server on this evening was an attractive young woman with a charming Italian accent, who seemed to capture our mood right away. She recommended the special pizza as a starter, and it was scrumptious. I don't remember there being any left on the platter. Yes, there were edible flowers on the pizza, too. Normally, I see this in restaurants and consider it either an annoying conceit, or a gimmick designed to divert my attention from sub-par food. Not in this case. The Chive blossoms really added to the whole - which included some savory anchovies. The crust didn't have too much char, but just enough. It was thin crust in the best tradition. We inhaled this Caprese style salad with house made Burrata cheese - which seems to be the rage in so many Italian places these days. The only reason this didn't get a 5 star rating? The less than ripe sliced tomatoes. But, on the whole we snagged every last bite, bathed in a basil infused olive oil and a drizzle of chili oil. In fact, there was a bite left when the waitress tried to retrieve the nearly empty plate, but Robert was quicker than she was. As always, we ended the meal, as is only correct, with a creamy espresso. Piazza D'Angelo uses the very best espresso beans from Graffeo in the city.

Lunch was fine here. The pappardelle was a little salty and had too much meat, but I really loved the burrata / asparagus appetizer. Nothing to write home about, but pleasant lunch nonetheless.

I think the food is good however the service was extremely poor and the restaurant management should be ashamed of themselves. I dinned there for lunch today with a friend who asked very specific questions about the menu and cost. She requested additional shrimp on an entrée and the waiter asked how many but said nothing more. When we got the bill the additional 6 shrimp we each had came to $21.00 which was more than our main course. When we asked him about the excessive cost and he shrugged his shoulders not offering to send over a manager etc. He was very smug. Before the bill came, I ordered dessert to go which was described as Almond "Cake" which was an $ 8.00 cupcake! Of which, I discovered when I got home and opened the take out box. I dine regularly at local 5 star restaurants and this is the first time I've ever felt hood winked. You don't ripe off customers because your in an expensive neighborhood, if San Francisco, or North Berkeley restaurants did this they would close in weeks, it's just not Ok. It poor customer service and a bad business practice. The place wasn't crowded when we got there and it wasn't crowded when we left so guess what...... Karma. There were many empty store fronts get a clue. I was going to return but the whole rip off experience left a BAD taste in my mouth.

Wife and I went here for lunch after a long hike. The food was excellent. We split a pizza and a pasta entree. Service was very good although it was quite empty when we sat down. Later on in the evening it got quite busy. Not super expensive nor very cheap somewhere in the middle. Food fit the pricing.

A little bit of Italy in Mill Valley. The owners are family and you feel as though you are as well when dining with family and friends. The atmosphere is friendly, the food is uncomplicated, delicious and prepared as you like it. I always ask for a 'half' and they will accommodate me with most every pasta, risotto, salad and even wine. A perfect way to eat light. The regulars visit there more often than their own kitchens....join them and see why. :)

We've been to this restaurant several times in the past and it was always good, not great. We usually sat on the patio because you can carry on a conversation without shouting. We made reservations this night and were seated inside right in the path of the servers, the patio was closed, first bad sign. The waiter couldn't of been colder if we'd challenged him to a ice bucket challenge. He took our drink reservations and then disappeared for some time. I hate that when they only ask for the drink order and not your food order. We ordered the pizza with spinach and mushrooms. The worst pizza ever! mushy, flavorless, just bad. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. Pun intended.

Food was good, as usual, but this is about the service. Our server was friendly but after waiting for our entrees for 45 minutes on a weeknight we asked him to check on it, and I also asked someone else. Many other diners had received their food so it was clear that either our server had forgotten to put in our order (we think this was it based on watching him after we asked about our dinners), or the kitchen dropped the ball. Regardless, the problem was that there was no acknowledgement from him that it was taking too long, no apology, no nothing. All he said was that it would be out soon-and we still waited 10-15 more minutes. If someone made a mistake, all they need to do is fess up, apologize and everything is fine. However, denying that there is a problem is totally unprofessional.

There are many great things about this place. For instance, the hostesses are absolutely gorgeous, down-to-earth, and really sweet. They seemed knowledgeable about the best dishes and drinks to order. I also enjoyed the ambiance. It wasn't dark like I assumed it would be. The complete opposite. Anyhow, what I ended up ordering was a Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini. I had to send it back since it wasn't "Raspberry" enough (meaning more syrup in my drink). My dinner date ended up order this thinly sliced beef salad that was incredible. My only complaint was that the dressing was a bit too tart (maybe it was the lemon my date put on). I ordered the squash ferro soup which was a surprising delight. It wasn't hot or spicy but just good. ^_^ Then came the potato pork pizza. That pizza tricked me! The potatoes looked like pineapples so I was easily fooled into thinking they were going to surprise me with my favorite topping (well, lol...my date didn't tell me it was potato so)! But it was pretty decent. I wish that it wasn't so greasy... I ended up ordering the spinach fettuccine with pork and seafood. It was greasy as well (this place should lower the amount of olive oil but hey...) but edible. Really what made me happy was the dessert. It was this amazing warm fudge delicatable in a cup...made me cry once I placed it in my mouth. Then...twenty minutes later, I had the craziest stomach ache that left me up all night. I can't say that it was all the previous food I had that night but I believe it was the dessert. It was way too much. I should have stopped when I had the chance...my stomach kept telling me I couldn't handle it but the chocolate was so warm and amazing...I couldn't resist. All in all I would come back for the dessert and possibly try other pizzas. There entrees are pretty straight but yeah. :)

Coming over here i expected something else. I can here hungry with my hope held up high. Turns out i was mislead. Very classy place, very pretty simple and nice. Our servers were very nice and also our host. Thing i wasn't very happy about was that communications were lost. I felt a little bit neglected most of the time while i was there. (Maybe because I was younger than most of their guest) and i was a new face but i didn't expect such an experience from a place like this. Although our waitress was the only one who was stable everything else was not. We had our plates taken away before we finished. We had our bread brought late and taken away from us once the food starting coming to our table. It was just so hard to get someone's attention also. our food: I came here expecting a spectacular meal i left here very confused. That night i had some butternut ravioli and a fish dish that they had to substitute because they ran out of scallops. I expected very delicious hand made ravioli with plump butternut puree fillings. The butter sauce on the plate were overpowering the ravioli. The fish they chose to substitute the scallop didn't match the palate of the plate though the fish was cooked tender enough. Then at the end of the night turns out everything was cooked by the sous chef because the executive chef wasn't here. What a disappointment. I'll try to come back another time when im ready to drive another hour to this place.

I love the food but the bar is by far my favorite. Umberto is the best bartender, very nice and funny, always provides entertainment for my friends and I. I enjoy how hands on the owner is, if you've been there then you've probably seen him or talked to him without knowing. The space is very light and family friendly. The patio is great during warm days and nights. I have never left unhappy.

As a Mill Valley resident, I have been avoiding going here until earlier this week. I had to try it once. Looks like it has a nice locals bar scene, but as far as dining goes, it leaves very much to be desired. The prices are high for what you get. I had the Cioppino: it looks good, but the broth had zero flavor and I could tell that the prawns were "fresh frozen". What else in that dish was frozen before?? For a little more money, you can have a fresher than fresh Cioppino with an incredible broth at Tadich Grill. My friend had a pancetta pasta dish: it tasted strange - I don't know what else to say on that. The tiramisu was good but probably not made that day....came in a refrigerated dessert cup. The cesar salad was mediocre...nothing inspiring here. The place is huge and never is full, so the ambiance is a little strange. The host and waiter seemed hurried, yet, the place was empty. I am pretty forgiving and not a big yelper, but I had to say something about the town I love in hopes that everyone can up their game. I wish I had another haunt to hang out in, but this is not an inspiring place to me that is calling me back. Especially with all the other Italian places in Mill Valley, I am not sure how this place stays afloat.

Well, I used to love this restaurant. As a Marin native coming here for, gosh, 20 years... I find myself a disappointed and not for the first time. At least I'm disappointed enough finally to post about it. My mother and father sitting across from me right now (it's Mother's Day) are also not happy. And it was my idea to come here, so I'm to blame, I suppose. In short: we all found our meat to be too raw- and they didn't ask me (or my mother) how I would like my duck meat cooked. My father's lamb was also really rare... And tough. He spent dinner busily futilely sawing through it with the special knife they gave him, eventually leaving a third in a pink pile on the plate. Also I don't understand this trend lately to serve kale and other salad green half cooked swimming in oil among other things. The entrees here are getting so rich and heavy! I remember ordering a pasta dish the other day, Easter, just a half order, and that alone gave me the most potent instant stomach ache. My stomach felt "insulted" and pouted well through the next day as I coaxed it back into a good mood with tea and antacids. I remember when this place served the most delicious rabbit and had pretty decent butternut squash ravioli to boot- now there is never rabbit and they changed the pasta recipe to taste a little off... Unusual... With pine nuts I think. Again, it's swimming in oil. Another night about a month ago I came here with a friend and we both ordered a pasta but instead they misheard us and sent out one pasta, split. We were glad for the mistake. It was more than rich. Also, the waiter tonight also seemed rather grim. Not happy to be there... Tired maybe. He never asked us how we liked the dinner. Well I'm tired too, of this place and my family's disappointed faces. At this rate they will stop going to restaurants period. We should have gone for Chinese. Or just a fresh salad. Can't anyone cook light and flavorful? At least then I wouldn't feel like I just put on 20lbs. Il Fornaio is putting calories on their menu. I dare you to do that, Piazza, and see how you have to change your cooking methods to lower the insane numbers you calculate. My mother just exclaimed, "We can cook better." Honestly, she can't cook at all, so that's not good.

So almost a year to the day of my last visit I ate here last night with my family and a few friends. Always busy, which doesn't surprise me given the look of the place. I stand by my previous comments - the food, service and wine list are very average/spotty at best and expensive for what it is. I've never had a real bad meal here but again never had a must return meal. The one major addition was service this time was a big fat goose egg. We arrived at 6PM and finally got out at 7:45PM, the reason we were there so long was the wait! Our waitress was disconnected leaving long pauses when we needed her - wine, water, bread, food... When our main course came for the six of us we got - 2 of the six; a few minutes later we got a third; five minutes later our fourth and fifth dishes and finally another five minutes the sixth dish (for my 7 year old) who we had to feed pieces of our meals - oh and her dish was pasta with butter and cheese. The manager then came back to say the problem wasn't his it was a backed up kitchen and we should be more understanding of a busy kitchen. Oh and the food - My wife's dish was stone cold and inedible, which she rejected. My chicken was dry right through and our calamari app was absolutely flavorless. My daughter's pasta was uncooked, not al dente just all raw! They eventually covered my wife's meal, WOW, and one bottle of wine. BTW - THERE IS NO KIDS MENU, nor do they really cater for kids. That's just plain DUMB. No longer even worth a visit once a year, can't imagine really recommending the spot to anyone; Marin has many more better family restaurants.

I've been going here since they opened. They've had periods with great cooking and other periods with lesser skilled cooking. Right now they have someone really good. I love their caesar salad...ask for anchovies if you want them. And their house made parsley pasta with mushrooms is excellent. This is inspired cooking. Think excellent specials, and quite a nice family atmosphere...good service.....a very comfortable hometown place.

Their salmon is call "organic farmed" and our waitperson said it was a healthy alternative to wild. Don't be fooled. To use this name is hiding the facts of what it really is. Do your research before you support this type of farming. davidsuzuki.org/blogs/he… Please use wild salmon or tell the truth of what it really is instead of misleading your customers. With your prices, you should be able to use what's best for the environment. The bread and dip was delicious and the service was great but felt rushed. ! My friends were very disappointed with their pasta and won't be coming back.

My wife and I occasionally visit Mill Valley, and D'Angelo is usually where we eat, mostly out of convenience. The place has up periods and down periods. Most recently (May 19 2012), it was really down. The quality of the food was decidedly below par, and service was indifferent. This is a contrast to the last few times we have eaten there, over the past year or so, when everything was pretty nice and the place seemed to be on an upswing. Will D'Angelo come back? It has before, but it seems like eating there will probably always be a gamble.

I think this place is called "trendy" Food is overrated: looks good on the plate but several in our party said mediocre or less. Understaffed = long wait at the table (should stay away during peak times). great location in downtown mill valley, atmosphere upbeat maybe just go for drinks at the bar - you can be trendy there.

I really didn't feel like going out. Saturday night, crowds, Tiger's game was on, and I am doing a month long cleanse, no sugar or sugar substitutes, gluten, soy, yeast, vinegar or alcohol. Doesn't leave a whole lot for a ristorante. We went and I must say I had a great night. The owner is so friendly. Our waiter brought out the chef, who then suggested a couple of items on the menu that would accommodate my restricted diet. Surprise Surprise they were exactly what I wanted. I had the pork chop with figs. It was perfectly cooked and the figs complimented the pork so well. My husband had the steak which he loved. We will definitely come back soon

Since we went to eat here with someone who is good buddies with the owner, we got the good stuff when it came to the appetizers. We had a bunch of cold cut meats (prosciutto, salami, etc) and various cheeses that I wasn't too familiar with. They were not stuff that they had on the menu so that was nice of them. Their foccacia bread with the pesto sauce was addicting too. For dinner, I tried the Tagliolini Gamberi E Vongole, which was this interesting thick spaghetti-like pasta with clams and shrimp in this light olive oil sauce. Portions were perfect and the flavors were great. You know it's good pasta when it's freshly made and when the pasta dishes are not drenched in sauce. I had a taste of their Margherita Pizza and that was simple, but satisfying. Of course, we left room for dessert. We had the lemon creme brulee and their tiramisu. The creme brulee was a little too tart for me, but the tiramisu was the BEST I've ever had. I could have eaten that on my own without sharing!

Best happy hour in Mill Valley. $6 specialty cocktails, $4 beers and wells drinks, $4 calamari and other "small bites," plus a friendly staff and beautiful location...love it! Apparently, (according to some of the other reviews), the food has gone downhill. I don't know...I haven't actually had a meal here in about 12 years; but, like I said, they have a great happy hour and delicious calamari and that's good enough for me to give them 4 stars.

D'Angelo now has a Sunday brunch menu which is available from 10:30AM until 3:00p.m. I went there this morning with a friend to try it out. We got to the restaurant shortly after they had opened so the place was quiet with a few diners scattered about. We started with a crisp glass of Prosecco while we reviewed the menu. There are limited items on the brunch menu, but they all sounded inviting. We ordered two different egg dishes which arrived promptly. The food was delicious!! I had an omelette with spinach, gorgonzola cheese and very tasty fingerling potatoes. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The service was excellent. Prices are moderate for the excellent quality of the food and the charm of the restaurant's ambience. I highly recommend this new place to go for brunch in Mill Valley.

This has the potential of being a good restaurant. Here is why it isn't yet: -While still enjoying our appetizer, the server removed our plates saying: "I am only going to take your plates but you can continue eating from the main plate...(we were sharing)". Not acceptable. -Brought the check before we asked for it. -Continuously came back to take the check as if in a hurry. -The fish was merely alright. -Wines by the glass are over-priced. It could be at the level of more starts. But it isn't yet.

We had such a great dinner here last night, that I feel compelled to write it up. Though it was Saturday night and the restaurant was full, we decided to take a chance and see if we could get dinner with a reasonable wait. The wait was short and there was room at the bar for two of us to sit and two to stand while we waited. As busy as he was, the bartender was friendly and immediately took our order. Our waitress was genuinely welcoming but professional and gave us plenty of time to decide, recommending exactly the correct wine. The food was outstanding, especially the lamb and the osso buco. But the pistachio cake with cardamon gelato was probably the best dessert I've ever eaten! At one point the waitress diplomatically backed away and came back later when she saw we were in the midst of a conversation. Nice. It was the first time in a long time where I've felt the food and service was worth the money we paid. A refreshing experience!

Had carry out order for pizza and pasta. Pizza was overdone and burnt. Worst thing that can happen to someone when getting carry out - get home and find out your food is unedible. WTF. Pasta dish ordered to be without : come home - scallops! Staff was nice but inept. Otherwise 1 star.

I write this review, having patronized this restaurant about 20 times, of which about 10 have been over the last two years. A solid 4 **** star restaurant, relative to prices, were it not for very lousy service rendered by waiters who started their lives as: 1) Former dishwashers who won the heart of the owners and were promoted to waiters, but failed to acquire skills needed for hospitality/service; or 2) Italian has-beens whose overbearing attempt at being charming is as endearing as the tacky jewelry around their wrist or necks. It behooves the management and owners to get waiters who can serve, who understand basic service etiquette, who understand English, who don't roll their eyes at customer requests, who leave their charm for their second (first?) job at Pier 39. Now the food.....It is not exceptional, but it is good value. The pizzas's could use a make over as they are all about the same. The pastas are good. The risottos are better than the pastas. Anytime I have a seafood stew or soup it has been over salted. Salads are good. Solid 4 star.

I was super excited when I saw that this place serves gluten-free pizza. As with so many places in the bay area the crust is from Mariposa bakery. Unfortunately this was not one of the better uses of their crust. The crust was soggy, sauce was mediocre, cheese wasn't great, and it didn't cover the entire pizza. I wanted to like it, b/c I like to have a variety of options when it comes to lunch spots for the one day a week I don't pack mine, but this won't be going on the list. Oh well.

This authentic italian restaurant gets 5 stars!! Service was excellent! Was greeted at the door with a smile, the ambiance is lovely, the food was OUTSTANDING! Im fairly picky about italian food and was very pleased with my dining experience here. Will def be back and will definitely recommend to friends!

Previously our go-to place in Mill Valley. However, that has changed. Gets a 3-star because the ambiance is restful. Based on food, gets a 2-star. Husband ordered the burger. It and the fries were good. I ordered the Caesar Salad ($9) and the Burrata/Heirloom Tomato Salad ($14). Lettuce on the Caesar barely covered the bottom of the salad plate, which they tried to hide with giant slabs of parmesan. Got five VERY thin slices of tomatoes with HUGE glops of mozzarella and burrata cheeses. I would not mind spending $23 for two salads with no proteins IF (and that's a big IF) the portions were good. While I would argue about quality or temperature, I'm not going to argue about portion size. Probably will not be back . . . at least, I won't order salads again. HUGE disappointment for me as I really like Piazza.

We were in Mill Valley on an errand, and were hungry enough that we decided to scoop the loop and see if something stuck out as a good spot to try for dinner. It was colder than we thought though, and Piazza D'Angelo looked warm and had not wait, so we gave it a shot. We bellied up to the bar and each got a glass of wine to start. Service at the bar was prompt and attentive throughout our entire meal, without being TOO attentive. Bonus: they keep a current copy of your receipt/bill in a glass right in front of you, so you can checkout whenever you want, without having to flag someone down. Hubby got a pizza and I got a pasta dish. Both were great, though hubby wished his pizza had a slightly crispier crust. We both saw quite a few things on the menu that sounded good to us, and we found the prices to be very reasonable. i wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but I'd certainly give it another shot if I find myself in Mill Valley again.

Took my mom here for dinner for her birthday. Had a pizza to start and we both really enjoyed it, house made sausage (enough said). My mom had a stuffed pasta with ricotta cheese and spinach that was really good and I had the new york steak that was cooked perfectly. The back side of the menu had half off bottles of wine! I will be back .

They seem to have solved their server problems and now the waiters are once again professional waiters and not bus boys. Great move! The food is always yummy and the staff and owners are terrific. Good bar. Good for a couple or a large table of friends. You won't go wrong here.

My wife and I decided to try one of our regular favorites tonight, Piazza D'Angelo Ristorante in downtown, Mill Valley. One of the two brothers/owners was there tonight - Paolo (there is always a family member at the restaurant to make sure everything is running smoothly!) as well as the son-in-law, Natale Cardamone, the General Manager and wine buyer. Also, making sure the kitchen was running like a Swiss watch, Massimo Covello, Chef/partner was in the kitchen producing some of the most wonderful Italian dishes this side of Italy! Marilyn, my wife, had Fetuccini Verdi and I had the Fettucini con funghi and pancetta (ham). Althought I'm usually a Chardonnay drinker, my wife loves Pinot Noir, I decided to try something different, a 1/2 bottle of one of the best Pinot Noir's we've ever had, a 2007 Row 11, from Santa Maria, California (bottled in Graton, CA). My goodness - heaven in a bottle. Overall, food, service, price, atmosphere - the best in Marin, even on a crazy weekend with the Mill Valley Film Festival going on. These folks know how to run a restaurant and take care of their customers. Thanks to all of you at Piazza D'Angelo Ristorante in Mill Valley. We love you! And by the way, for those of you who have a disability or a family/friend with a disability, Piazza D'Angelo Ristorante has made a real effort to be accessible to everyone, including those of us with disabilities. Thanks, guys!

I'm not a fan of one star reviews. Things have to be pretty bad to get a one star review, and I've been going to D'Angelo's off and on for 25 years. But the experience I had last night has left me no choice. We decided to have a nice birthday dinner with my husband and my parents on a busy Thursday night. We had a lovely table and we were all set to have a great evening. The food was barely edible. The pizzas were doughy and cold in the middle. The pork belly was not cooked and frankly disgusting to look at (and I'm a fan of the pig). My husband's pasta was chewy and oily. The "special" that was recommended to me (the petrale wrapped in homemade bacon) was disgusting. It was sitting on a bed of something green that smelled like gym shoes. I was so bummed. The waiter was sweet, so I guess that's a plus. But I had to ask the bus boy to bus the table. Food had been sitting there and the smell was bad. I interrupted his conversation with his friend to ask him to bus the table. Sigh. The restaurant was humming and packed. Everyone around us appeared to be having a grand time. I can't image that we were the only table with sub-par food. I will not be back. The only memorable part of the evening was how bad the food was.

Absolutely fantastic meal. Started with the Parma and buffalo mozzarella, I dont eat ham but the mozzarella was fantastic. Then had the arugela, fennel, and Meyer lemon salad, which was simple and refreshing. We finished with the pasta with pesto, which was absolutely knockout. Beautiful environment, attentive staff. We didn't have dessert but saw a tray come out of the kitchen that looked out of this world.

While by no means the tastiest place in town, I like a place that stays open late (by MV standards) and has a bar without cougars and manthers. (Balboa gets that crowd now). Decent bignole and plenty of hot coffee to nicely end your meal.

Our hotel Acqua in Mill Valley made us reservations here since the owners of the hotel also own this restaurant. The gave us a very nice table right in front of a beautiful fireplace. Unfortunately we roasted through dinner. After being talked into the soup of the day, a vegetable medley we regretted it. It was like cut up veggies in hot water. There was no flavor. At all. Our entree's were better but not stellar. I had the mushroom risotto which was bland and not really all that creamy and my husband the clam/shrimp over pasta. Unfortunately he found a large chunk of clam shell in his dinner. The house white wine was pretty good though. I could deal with the so-so food but my biggest problem was the layout of the restaurant overall. We were packed in there like sardines!! My husband and I scooted all the way into the fireplace where we were sweating all the way through dinner but we had to because we were seated in one of the main aisle ways and had to tuck our elbows in at all times! I was so close to the next table I could touch it! They needed to rearrange their layout of remove a few tables! And our tiny table for two didn't even have room for salt and pepper on the table. Overall they got three stars for the excellent waitstaff and complementary valet parking!!! The hosts were friendly and nice. The location was in the heart of downtown Mill Valley and very cute. Clean and beautifully decorated! Very open design despite the packed in tables. Would try a new restaurant if we ever went back!

Recommendations - I had a great appetizer special of fried zucchini blossoms stuffed with smoked cheese. Everything about it was spot on. The aged ricotta, asparagus salad I had was also delicious. It was dressed perfectly, which I believe is hard to find. The pastas were good but I'd say I've been a tad more impressed about Perbacco. Don't get me wrong, they were good, they just didn't completely knock my socks off. Pizza was solid and a good size for the price. The martinis were cold and dry, just like we like 'em. Service was attentive and prompt without being bothersome in the least. Very impressive. If I'm in the 'hood I would definitely come here again. Nice atmosphere and consistent food.

My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant, celebrating our 41st anniversary. The food was great, the servings perfect, the price competitive, and the service very good. We had the Fettuchini with Caesar Salad, a glass of wine. There was lots of bread and a garlic/olive oil dip. The staff was courteous, and the food was delivered quite quickly (we went early to avoid the wait). We will go again!

My expectations were low. I'd eaten at D'Angelo's a small handful of times around 10 or so years ago, and it was always mediocre, but I'm happy to say they've improved quite a bit. I've eaten there a couple times over the past few months, and both times were quite satisfactory.

Last weekend, I spent a lovely day exploring Marin and Sonoma while my parents were visiting. Honestly, the only thing I've ever heard about Mill Valley is that Tyler Florence had a store here. Turned out to be a glorified Williams Sonoma... I'm glad we discovered Mill Valley though because it is a super cute town and Piazza D'Angelo does an amazing brunch. I had a Kobe beef burger that was cooked to a perfect medium with 2 sunny side up eggs. My dad got french toast which was stuffed with mascarpone and literally covered with berries and walnuts. My mom had crepes with the same topping. I have to admit, I was a little jealous because the french toast was to die for!! Did I mention that drinks are only $3.75?? I had a bellini... nothing beats prosecco at noon :) Service was great, very friendly and not rushed. I'd love to come back to try more things or have dinner, except it would involve crossing 2 bridges and driving through san francisco...

Had lunch here today and was pretty impressed. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully done; nice photos on the wall, glass vases, very clean, fireplace...just a great atmosphere. The service is good too; the host was friendly and the servers were attentive and well-trained. The prices aren't terribly cheap, but it's Mill Valley. I got the Pizza con Chiodini e Arugula, which comes with sliced tomatoes, fontina cheese, garlic, basil, honey mushrooms, and organic arugula. The pizza came out fresh and hot; what I like about this place is that the kitchen is visible from the dining area, and as soon as the food is ready, the server brings it to your table. The cheese was perfectly melted and the pie was still hot. The crust was very good, thin and crispy in the Italian style. The tomatoes were flavorful and had a fresh texture. I didn't taste much garlic. The honey mushrooms were a little sweet, but didn't have much mushroom flavor, which was disappointing. The arugula was just okay; it was fresh off the vine, and could have been cooked or tossed in something a little bit to bring down the bitterness. I got to try the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese and was very impressed. My grandmother has been making me this dish for as long as I can remember, and Piazza D'Angeleno totally nailed it. The pasta tasted homemade, the sauce was perfect...one of the best pasta dishes I've had at a restaurant in a long time. Very good food, very good service, very good ambiance, not a terrible price. If you're looking for a nice Italian restaurant, look no further.

I had drinks here and it was just-okay. The bar area is well lit (not dim and moody) and has small tables by the window. The bar selection was pretty good, but they only had one beer on draft. The bottles of Anchor Steam were only $4 -- not bad! My one complaint was that the crowd volume was really loud and I had to shout to be heard at 1am on a Tuesday night.

We last ate at Piazza D'Angelo nearly 10 years ago. Today, we went again, and while it was very good, it is not, sadly, as good as it was back then. 10 years ago, it would easily rank 5 stars for us, but today I cannot fairly give it more than 4, and here's why: The bread basket 10 years ago contained three different breads and each was astonishingly good, with or without the dipping pesto. Bread so good that we would drive the 40 miles, sometimes just for the experience of the bread alone -- it really was that good. Today's visit: the bread basket also had three different breads, and while they were fresh, you really had to enjoy it with the dipping oil, which had also changed to a delicious minced olive and herb pesto. The bread did not, to me, seem likely to have been made on-site, as I presume it was in years past. A real shame, in my opinion, since their bread 10 years ago was sublime. But the main reason today we can give only 4 stars was the unfortunate inclusion of not one but several hairs on the plate of our shared salad. My son found them, and they were a distinct mis-match to his own hair! But this didn't stop us, we ate the salad, which was itself extraordinary, with fresh mozzarella like I have never had before. I would order that salad again in an instant, even if I would have to first dissect it for any potential follicles from the kitchen! We ordered the pizza Margherita, which was exactly as I remember it from years past: very thin crust with a tiny bit of char, perfectly sauced and seasoned. It is as pizza should be, in my opinion. Lastly, for dessert, I had their Tiramisu which was, hands down, the very best I have had in my life. They drizzled a tiny amount of an orange citrus reduction which adds a tiny kick of acidity, cutting down on the richness of this perfect dessert. Service was exceptional, atmosphere warm and friendly. I will definitely go again, hopefully a lot sooner than it had been since our last trip.

Best italian in Mill Valley! I always ordered the cappellini pomodoro each time...and the burrata. DELICIOUS and SO FRESH. As a matter of fact, this was my take-out meal of choice for a) my first night home from the hospital and b) our last night living in Mill Valley. We did take-out mostly (we lived across the plaza) which was great...we did one night at a table and one night at the bar. Both outstanding service. I love, love, loved Piazza d'Angelo.

I have been here once before, and there seems to be a new chef. All the food our table ordered was exceptional. One item missed the mark a little but everything else was so damn good. Definitely a 5 star experience. Had a pretty decent wine list as well, Thanks!

Pros: Consistently good. Nice atmosphere, excellent outdoor seating on hot days. Menu is reliable and service and food quite good. Cons: sometimes I feel that they need to heat the entire restaurant better - it feels cold.

Went there for lunch on Sunday, I got the mula fish over sautéed kale and potatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the kale delicious (potatoes were good as well, but not the star of the dish). My friends shared a pizza and the tortellini. Both were wonderful and didn't leave the two of them overly stuffed. The waiting staff was attentive and charming and you can't beat the location. We made a reservation for 1pm but there wasn't a wait even for walk-ins as there is a lot of space. Also: outdoor seating, plus veggie and gluten-free menus. I would definitely go back.

We go to this restaurant about once or twice a year. We can count on a great experience every time. Recently we had polenta/sausage antipasta, mushroom gnocchi and salmon pizza. All was delicious and the kids loved their pizzas. The Limerick Lane Zin was great.

This Italian restaurant is one of my very favorites. Even the most simplest dishes are out of this world! The management is great and I have NEVER had a bad experience with them. The food and the service are consistently great! If you don't mind a drive to Marin country for some amazing Italian cuisine, I would definitely suggest this place!

My mom and I came here for dinner last Saturday and had such a great time. We were immediately seated in one of their comfortable booths and received great service and enjoyed very tasty food. My mom had the sausage pizza and I had the sautéed vegetable appetizer and everything was cooked perfectly. Needless to say we will definitely be back!

Went to this restaurant the other night with 11 girlfriends. We were in a private room which we thought would be great but "out of sight-out of mind" was what happened. Our waiter came back only when necessary. Of course with a large group when the check came the tip was already included and he didn't deserve it. The food was expensive and not much of it. I had ravioli (mini) and it was a step above Chef boy r de mini raviolis in a can! I split a salad with a friend which was a mistake as the salad was really small. The order was so skimpy that I had to eat 4 pieces of bread just to not feel hungry. None of my friends raved about their food either and several said they were still hungry when we left. This is our yearly outing with our Bunco group and it was a disappointment for the money spent.

So let me start off saying I didn't actually get INTO the restaurant. I was in the area for the MVFF and thought I'd check the local eatery scene to see what was good to eat. It was nearby and the party I was with suggested we check it out because when they went by, the menu looked good to them. We went by to check out the menu and yes, it did look great. There were only 4 of us, and it looked very busy but we asked what the wait was. A man told us "Oh it's going to be a loooong wait... Like 20-30 minutes." Uh, that's not long at all, I've waited at Chili's longer. Hell, put our name down and we'll be outside! He mentioned there were a lot of reservations and taking a glance at their list it looked long. I'm a wee bit claustrophobic so the crowd was getting to me. We waited outside for a good half hour before we checked in again. They said they had "called our name" yet no one came outside to get us? We were RIGHT outside and we told them we were going to be outside. Whatever. No need to make a big scene. So they said no worries, we would be "next." A half hour goes by, it has now been an HOUR and they hadn't called us. Sure they were overwhelmed, but they did not not offer anything nor apologize for their terrible wait time estimate. In fact, I think we were subject to age discrimination (I am 90% sure I was the youngest one there). Hey, just cause I'm not balding and don't have a suit on does not mean I do not pay/tip well. My problem with this place is as follows: If you overbooked yourself with reservations, TURN AWAY people and ask them to come back another day and apologize. If you are that busy, please don't give us a half-ass estimate. 20-30 minute wait turning into an hour? Don't BS me, I'd rather you tell me an hour and say "Maybe next time we'll make a reservation" than "I'm never going to try and go to this place again." If you are simply overwhelmed, at least offer a drink at the bar, and offer your apologies. Why, yes, I am understanding that the MVFF crowd was lookin' for dinner, but really, this isn't the first year for them. Appropriately staff and prepare for an event and know your limits as a business. Two stars for food that looked great. If you are still interested in this place, I'd suggest make a reservation. I'm not even going to attempt to go back here.

I used to love this restaurant, but lately, the food has left much to be desired. The Caesar Salad was one of my favorites, but they seem to have watered down the great dressing. The prices go up, but the quality goes down. It's a shame because this used to be one of my favorite places for dinner. Not anymore.

The food here is consistently delicious, and from local organic farms. There always seems to be an owner or two present, and the staff and management always make you feel welcome, as if you were part of the family. I'd suggest any one of the pizzas - honestly, they're the closest thing I've had to pizza in Italy, made in a wood-burning oven. The most recent time I went I had the gnocchi special - like starchy clouds of heaven! Highly recommended.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants outside of Italy. We had our rehearsal dinner there and they could not have been more accommodating. My pizza-critical friend from Italy said it was one of the few places in the US that has "real" pizza. The butternut squash ravioli is awesome as well, my wife's favorite dish in the world she like to say. The tiramisu should be required eating. It can get a little crowded, so a reservation or patience is needed for the weekends. Pricing is reasonable, lower and higher priced options are featured on the large menu.

Unlike chain restaurants, I prefer family run ones as is this with the brothers, Domenico & Paulo, as owners, their children & a brother-in-law, Natale. Let me get it off my chest early as I'll try to continue without appearing biased as my father was born in Calabria. In addition to these 3, the new addition head chef, Massimo, is also a Calabrese. For those who have been to Roma in Italia, you might recall that many of the restaurants in Piazzas, on Via Veneto etc. have barkers outside enticing you to come in. Even here in SF's Northbeach you'll find them. Many of these places are basic tourist traps. This location in quaint Mill Valley does not make it a prime tourist destination. I feel that a successful neighborhood restaurant depends upon repeat customers so the food has to be good and this place is always buzzing busy---enough said ! Good dining experiences for us are more than good food but essential to have a lively and welcoming atmosphere. My wife loves the Italian black & white movies on the wall & we go many times for "Dinner & a Movie. Also, I have a eye on the TV for the major sporting event of the day. The reason this place runs smoothly is that the owners walk the floors & run it all like orchestra leaders directing the musicians(cooks, waiters, bus boys etc.) to deliver a stupendous performance. A very nice touch too is that the chef, Massimo, wanders the tables chatting with the customers-"Tutto Bene and Tutto a Posto" (is everthing OK !) and we are never made to rush as happens in many places when they need turn the tables. On a personal basis, there is a characteristic I especially like about the owners & the chef. When I speak Italian, they respond in Italian. When I speak English, they respond in English. This allows me the dignity of speaking the language of my ancestors, weakly or not, as their English is most definitely better than my Italian. Talk about service, prior to this new chef, I mentioned to Domenico an item not on the menu how much I like Pasta with Calamari & tentacles & he left the floor & went into the kitchen & cooked it special for me and I got very nostalgic as I recall "era squisita come facevano le mie Nonna e Mamma" (as my Grandmother & Mother used to make). In Italy there is an expression "Fare La Scarpetta" (little shoe) & the bread is used to scoop up the sauce and I must have gone through a loaf of bread remembering my Mamma as she kept eating and eating and we asked why & she responded "per togliermi lo sfizio". The word "sfizio" is not easy to translate but remember a potato chip company ad was that they bet you could not eat just one and like eating peanuts, it's not easy to stop. There is another Italian saying which may help to explain "lo sfizio" and it's "l'appetito viene mangiando"-one's appetite increases eating and it is never more evident than in this wonderful "ristorante". The pizza here is the best I've had outside of Napoli and it's sort of like a "Pizzetta"which to truly be Italian must be done in a wood burning oven. The custom of putting many, many ingredients on a pizza is American. The best Italian pizzas have 3-4 ingredients and one of my favorites here is "The Margherita", named after the Queen of that name who visited Naples in the late 1800s. It's very simple with the red of the Tomato, the white of the Mozzarella and the fresh Green Basil which represent the 3 colors in the Italian flag. When I have family in town or just want a great get-together with large groups of friends, this is a perfect place. I get very nostalgic here as I recall family gatherings growing up and my Mother, also born in Italia, used to say, "siamo tutti famiglia alla tavola"(we're all family at the table) & the owners always make us feel like so. In fact, I had a very memorable 65 BD here with about 40 people in a private setting to the side and I even got up to sing "O Sole Mio". Recently we had 4 friends from Napoli visit for 2 weeks. They really wanted to try only non-Italian food but most Italians, well me at least, after 3-4 days I get withdrawal symptoms, as did they so a group of 8 of us came here. WOW. WHAT A NIGHT ! Although this is not a family style "ristorante", the owners arranged 3-4 "contorni/piatti piccoli" (small plates of fritto misto of calamari, shrimp, scallops, mozzarella, pomodori, prosciutto, roasted peppers etc.) to simulate a 7 course dinner. Some complimentary limoncello, grapa, sambuca after dinner drinks ended a very family style type occasion thanks to the brothers. My Neapolitan friends were so grateful that although they initially said they did not come to America to eat in Italian restaurants, were happy I recommended this gem which they said was their best dining experience in America. Marinites must definitely know this place. If not, shame on you ! Those in the Bay Area who visit the Wine Country, Stinson Beach, Mt.Tam, Muir Woods etc., make Piazza D"Angelo one of your must stops !

Does this make your mouth water? "Cappellacci di Zucca - House made hat-shaped ravioli filled with butternut squash and pine nuts, in a tomato butter Parmesan sage sauce drizzled with a light balsamic vinegar reduction" (see photo) OK! I see that we have a little drool starting at the corner of your mouth. This dish is absolutely delicious - combining what I love about butternut squash ravioli and dishes with tomato sauce - you get the best of both worlds. D'Angelo's is always a solid choice for lunch when you are shopping in Mill Valley. The food is consistently good, and the staff is very nice. From the bread with olive oil to the desserts, it's best to throw your calorie conscience out the window and just enjoy. If you must be good, salads are big and flavorful here. The restaurant is big and although it's always busy, you can usually get a table right away on a weekday - I'm sure it's packed on the weekends with the stroller crowd, though. Some people have visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads this time of year - for me, it is savory pillows of Capellacci di Zucca!

My husband and I had a wonderful lunch at Piazza D'Angelo today. I hadn't been there in about five years and they had a nice table next to the open windows on a beautiful day, so we thought we'd check it out. We started off with cocktails. If you like St. Germaine, i'd recommend the cocktail with Gpgin, elderflower liqueur, parsley simple syrup and lime. it's sweet, floral and tart all at once. We split the Insalata Di Fagioli, a beautiful salad with baby lettuce, butter beans, fennel, walnuts and parm. The beans were a little too firm, but the salad was still delicious. It was plenty of salad for two or an entree for one. The Panino Con Pollo was super delicious, crusty bread with a wonderful pesto. We also had the margarita pizza. The crust was good tasting, although I'd prefer a little more crunch. We finished off the meal with a very good cappuccino. We'll be back.

Another great night at Piazza! Friendly staff, great table for 12 exactly where we requested (on the back patio where it's quiet and more intimate), and great food and drink. They quickly brought water, drinks, delicious bread with pesto for dipping. Our orders came very quickly for a Saturday night. I had a simple mixed salad with beets, which was just wonderful---fresh greens, savory dressing, but would have liked a few more greens and beets for $8.50! Others enjoyed their pizza, pasta, and salads. Great service tonight, as usual. We'll be back!

The owner just wants to turn tables over, it's rush rush. However, I don't blame the servers one bit. The owner is responsible for delivering the worst customer service I have experienced at a "fancy" restaurant. When the owner hovers over your table and the servers collect your plate immediately after your last bite, you know the pressure is on to turn your table to maximize profits. I like to carefully order, chat up the server and savor the meal. Being rushed is simply uncalled for. I feel bad for the staff; it must be a bad working environment. El Paseo suffers from the same problems, but their food is better so it's tolerable. Take your money and go to Toast (comfort food), La Ginestra (especially if it's your birthday) or Bungalow 44 (hip crowd and a fun bar). These owners are all about good service and their staff reflects it. I'm not 100% yet on Vasco, I need to go there a dozen more times to be sure but it looks promising (they have live music). BTW, as an old fart that eats out a lot, I love this yelp stuff. I've wanted to say something about D'Angelo's for years. I also like reading other reviews, I find it helpful. There are a number of good businesses and excellent restaurants in Mill Valley! I love this town.

Quick note: this review is for catering (they did our wedding) So with that out of the way...Piazza D' Angelo has a deal with our venue and we were sort of pushed to use them which made us a little nervous. But wow...were we wrong. They were great! Wonderful, delicious food, really attentive service and very reasonable pricing - just a terrific experience. Quick background - Piazza D' Angelo is a lovely upscale restaurant in the heart of Mill Valley and they provided catering that was more like a nice restaurant dinner than the typical "event food" often found at weddings. We got lots of glowing comments about the food from our guests. A couple of specific benefits: 1) They were very flexible with the menu. We mentioned that we didn't want a classically Italian meal and they were easily able to put together a more neutral menu with a Mediterranean fish entre, a great steak option and a delicious home-made vegetarian pasta that may have been the best of the bunch. 2) They provide very reasonable all-inclusive pricing that includes all courses, bar service and the wedding cake (a major savings.) And neither the bar nor the cake felt like add-ons. They worked with us to select wines we liked and have a deal with a top notch Mill Valley bakery (Krumbs Kakes) that did an amazing, delicious, memorable cake. 3) They were really nice and really flexible. Special shout-out to catering director Sara Kmitch - she's a pro and really great to deal with. They accommodated pretty much all our special requests without any fuss and (in all but a few cases) without any up charge. We honestly felt like they cared about our wedding going well. All-in-all, a fabulous experience and a surprising value. We really recommend Piazza D' Angelo enthusiastically.

Good Lord, what a fantastic late night meal! After a failed photo shoot with my friend Kristen, we opted to go eat. There wasn't anything in Tiburon or really all of Marin County, but we managed to stumble our way into Piazza D'Angelo after a sad attempt at getting ice cream. I ordered the steak, and Kristen ordered the Pizza Margarita and Carpaccio. The Carpaccio was really good, from what I could taste of it. Kristen would only let me get a little bite, cursing me for being so damn stingy and not getting an appetizer (to my credit, my steak was 16 ounces!) Then Kristen's pizza came out. I wasn't too much of a fan of it, but Kristen insisted that this was how pizza is supposed to taste in Italy, and that it tasted perfect. Well, I'm no Italy afficionado, so I'll take her word for it. Now onto my steak - this was the best steak I have ever tasted in my life, and I've tasted many cows in my lifetime. I ordered it medium rare, and for some reason, that confused the waiter. "Are you sure you want it medium rare?" "Wait, like medium rare? Not medium right?" I guess they do it different in Italy? Regardless, that steak was the right amount of juicy and flavor. I'm salivating at work just thinking about it. Oh crap, some cute girl in the other cubicle just saw me drool onto my shirt. Whoops. It was an expensive late-night meal (hey, I'm getting a food quality light years ahead of Taco Bell and J-Bo!), but it was worth every penny! Whenever I'm in the moo'd (get it? get it?) for great late night food and I happen to be stuck in Marin County, I'm definitely heading to Piazza D'Angelo!

The service was great and this restaurant had a nice feel, but the food was just average. Not bad at all, but not a pizza Im going to be craving anytime soon either.

I have been coming here for years and while it has been consistent I am a little tired of their menu. The pizza is always top notch and I do like the carpaccio appetizer and the Cesare salad but most everything else is just okay. The food is not bad its just that it needs a little zing to liven things up. Service has always been good, and I have never had to wait for a table. They are offering a half off wine list on Monday or Tuesday nights which is a little easier on the wallet. If you want an authentic Italian pizza then this is a good place to grab a bite.

Like an old friend, D'Angelo's can always be counted on to sparkle, soothe and satisfy. I've been coming here for years and have gone through much of the menu. Cioppino, pasta, contorni, antipasti - tutto bene here. Tonight we stopped in without reservations, leaving the car out in Mill Valley town square under the sheltering branches of a coastal redwood, and per usual it was packed so we came to the bar. A couple of glasses of Sonoma cabernet later we shared an order of fried calamari and a house tortellini in tomato cream sauce. A small table opened up behind us and we moved there, to be joined by other friends gathered for the celebration of two lives to be soon joined as one. Shouting happily above the din of comfortable locals, we ate and quaffed, souls joining in the conviviality of a lifetime of memories. And that's what life's all about.

After trying D'Angelo's many years ago, we decided to try it again. The evening got off to a bumpy start as we were seated outside on the patio. Despite some thin, plastic, and see-through tarps that surrounded the patio, we were kinda cold (however, the heaters helped somewhat!) For our appetizer, we had the tuna tartar. I thought that the fish was very light and fresh; however, I thought it was dripping in oils and dressing. For our main courses, we had the pollo ripieno, pasta with shrimp and articokes, and zuppa di pesce. I thought all of the dishes were very yummy as we were full in minutes because of the huge servings. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake with caramel sauce- delicious! Overall, I thought D'Angelo's was pretty good, and I will try their authentic Italian food again! ***Caution- D'Angelo's bread with pesto sauce is to DIE for! Do not skip out!****

I'm not a big Italian foodie, but I really enjoyed this place. It was a Tuesday night and quite busy, which was surprising. We went to Mill Valley to see a comedy show at the Marin Theatre and it's a great spot to have dinner before the show. They accomodated our group of 6 at short notice. They menu is extensive, but their thin crust pizza was a winner. I had the butternut squash ravioli which were great too, but next time, I'll be getting the pizza.

I have eaten here three times in the past month and would go back again as it is reasonable priced and the food is dependable. The first time I had the mixed salad and salmon special, both of which were excellent! The next time I had the mixed salad and halibut, which was very good but slightly overcooked. On another occasion, I had a chicken Cesar salad which had a delicious dressing, however, I ordered it to-go a few nights later and it was a disappointment. The bread is very good, the wait staff is friendly, I think my only complaint would be that I don't really like any of their red wine by the glass choices, so the last time I was there I ordered a Pinot Grigio that slipped down nicely. If you're looking for a dependable place to go in Mill Valley, look no further!

Oh D'Angelo, what would I do without your special order of frito misto on top of my mixed green salad? For some reason, this is one of the only things I get here and it's not even on the menu. I adopted this habit from my friend Tim, who is a regular there, and there I mean the city of Mill Valley. It's always fun sitting at the bar and watching the regulars and the characters walk through the door. Is she really with him? Wow, he must have a smashing personality. hehe

We had an early dinner yesterday on our way back to the capital. The fish soup and the herbed chicken were our choices. Both were very nicely prepared. The service was slow to begin with but it picked up once we ordered. The vibe is relaxed and nicely appointed. All in all, a most pleasant experience during a beautiful Marin afternoon.

I've been visiting Piazza D'Angelo a couple times a year for, well, it feels like forever but I guess it hasn't been that long. Basically, if I'm hiking or mountain biking up north, I get hungry. Mill Valley is the most convenient place to get food on the way home, and Piazza D'Angelo is right smack in the middle of Mill Valley with lots of parking. Since it's my after outdoor activities spot, I think I tend to hit it before the crowds (around 5 or 6 on the weekends) so I've never had to wait for a table. While it is a slightly fancier looking place, there are plenty of families with small children, birthday parties, and seniors, and I have never felt snubbed for wearing sweaty clothes and grubby hiking boots to dinner. The food I've had there has always been excellent. It's not experimental or adventurous necessarily, but it is always solid and the wine list is quite nice. It's not scary for out of town visitors or older relations. I highly recommend asking which pastas are housemade that day and trying one of those. I almost always get the capellacci di zucca, but I've had several excellent risottos there too, and I think the grilled fish dishes are also well regarded by carnivores I have dined with.

Best Bar in Mill Valley / Possibly all of Marin The bartenders here can Really mix a drink! The food is worth every penny and quite tasty unless you get the gluten free pizza crust ( This is still a work in progress ) Very friendly staff, good location and I always have a great time (which is the bottom line)

Hubby and I both ordered pasta dishes and it was okay. I ordered a fettuccine special with mushrooms and thought the pasta noodles were too thin and the taste was just okay. Hubby ordered pasta shells with chicken some other things and broccoli in a red sauce. Just okay also. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't special. The antipastino was good though. Capay tomatoes were yummy, with a veggie I've never seen before but it was nice and tasty. Service - great. Atmosphere spacious and comfortable. We were sitting in the back under the retractable roof so there was a nice breeze on a warm night. I feel I need to go back and order a pizza since that's what people are raving about. Just didn't feel like pizza the night we went and weren't all that aahed by the pasta.

Very good. Excellent food and very cute atomosphere. I loved the old black and white films being projected on the wall. The pizza oven and open kitchen also are great! I love to see all the fabulous dishes coming out. They were busy, but we still had good service from multiple servers. Can't wait to go back, and I'm so glad it's in our neck of the woods.

The food is amazing and the staff is also very friendly. The zuppa di pesce is the best. I'm not a seafood fan by any means so for me to actually like seafood, it's kind of a big deal. Well done Piazza D'Angelo!!!

OK..so I went back for Valentine Dinner last night and had to upgrade this restaurant to a five star! The service: impeccable. The food: fantastic on every front. The drinks: they don't skimp on the tequila! The ambiance: perfect, as we were seated in a five table room away from the noise. Really...what a great night we had! We started with the carpaccio (sp?). Well, my boyfriend started with it because I don't eat beef. He loved it! Then we had the fantastic salads with the mixed greens and walnuts. YUM! Then my boyfriend ordered the halibut with roasted potatoes and spinach and I had risotto with chicken, tomato, and parmagian cheese. It was superb!!! How could we pass up dessert? Well, we normally could and maybe would, but heck, it's Valentine's Day! Might as well splurge. I had the chocolate mousse with raspberries on top. OMG. GREAT! My boyfriend had the cream puffs with chocolate sauce. He loved it!! OMG...can you say "thank God our car was parked right out front because God forbid we would have to walk after all this??". Haha! Truly, KUDOS to this restaurant. We will return again and again and again. The best part truly is the service from the hostess to the waiters to the guys who fill up our water glasses and bring our bread. TERRIFIC JOB EVERYONE!!

I thought the food here was very fresh and inventive. In particular the spinach salad with fig balsamic dressing was very good. I loved the bread with the chimichurri-inspired dip. And, the big booth and big lively bright space - very inviting and unrushed.

I needed to find a nice place for my wife's birthday. I read all the reviews for a family friendly place in Mill Valley and decided to go here. Our reservations were at 5pm and they were not busy yet. The problems started when it took over an hour and a half for us to receive our meals. Our children were served earlier. Their food arrived 45 minutes before ours. When I asked why there was such a delay between their food and ours, the server said he did his best. I asked to speak to a manager who said that it's normal to take and hour and a half for full service. I explained the 45 minuted delay between our children's service and ours. His reply was "fine, don't give your server a tip then". I was a bit shocked at his people skills. Needless to say, I found the manager to be quite rude. Here is another reason why. Unannounced, 3 desserts arrived, 1 with a candle burning for her birthday. Off to the side, I reminded him that we wanted to look at the dessert menu first. I guess he got upset at this because he immediately pulled everything away after momentarily placing it before my wife and children. It was all rather shocking and abrupt. The candle still burning as all desserts were taken away. My wife was upset. So I asked for the bill so we could leave. I reiterated why we were unhappy with the experience. His reply, "we comped your wine and desserts, so what else do you want?" The funny thing was we did not ask nor eat the desserts he presented. And he had still charged us for the wine. I have never been treated with such disrespect at a restaurant. I love to give good reviews. But this place was the worst service I have really experienced. If you like decent service, then don't go.

Came here after watching "Mesrine: Killer Instinct" at the Sequoia theatre...(BTW, that movie makes Scarface look like the freaking Care Bear movie). Normally in Mill Valley and we have a craving for Italian, we go to Vascos, but we decided to finally branch out and try something new... We walked in and the place was buzzing - its definitely a "see and be seen" type vibe...our server, Angel, was extremely attentive and very good throughout the whole evening. We started with summer vegetable soup, and the Caesar salad. Both were good, but not outstanding. For our mains, I had the shell pasta with tomatoes and broccoli, and hubby had the spinach raviolis. Both were good, but not outstanding. I'm sure the one positive thing that the food has is consistency, if that makes sense. I think we will definitely come here again for appetizers and drinks, but I think for Italian in Mill Valley, we will stick to Vascos...personal preference.

Yummy, homemade Italian food--delicious butternut squash raviolis with sage butter and wonderful, supple, delicate gnocchi. Only criticisms are noise level--it's deafening--and that the restaurant gives some sort of olive oil (basil) dip with walnuts in it, and I think it a good idea that the restaurant tell customers up front, not merely when they ask what is in the bread dip, because some of us have nut allergies. Other than that, this is really lovely food with nice service. And, maybe, it's a Marin-L.A. thing, but the hostess was wearing more skin than dress. And it was almost sad to see three men in their late 50s, 60s, fairly drooling on her. I am 40, and wouldn't have wanted those attentions. Ick-eeeee!!!

Although I cannot remember the names of all the dishes we ate, I can remember how fantastic the food was. It isn't often I get to enjoy tablecloth service--as I am in the restaurant business myself and a student and a mother--so when I get the opportunity, I thoroughly enjoy it. The service began smooth and attentive. We had a fairly early reservation, which helps. As the night progressed, a larger party came in and only then did our service drop off a little. We were done and waiting for dessert menus, which he was able to offer when he had the time. (Go for the molten chocolate cake...only if you like chocolate...melty, yummy goodness) Overall, we enjoyed our meal. My son ate the Pizza Margherita (thin, light, and fantastic). We shared the Zuppa di Pesce (amazing), along with a couple of appetizers and another main dish. When the time comes for another celebratory dinner, we may wander on down to Mill Valley and enjoy ourselves at Piazza D'Angelo once more.

I'll start by saying that this is a great restaurant, to say nothing of the fact that its a great, gluten-free-friendly restaurant. We savored some delicious Italian food that just happened to be GF: penne pasta bolognese, pizza capricciosa, and warm GF baguette flavored with rosemary. The staff was prompt and courteous, with just the right dose of Italian attitude.

I've been here a few times, and always a great experience. Yes the butternut squash ravoli is great, but this time I just felt like a good bolanaise on pasta, and while simple it was very very good. Sat out in back porch, a good wine selection and was with friends which made this a most memorable time. Mill Valley never fails!!!

I've been here a few times and am surprised I haven't reviewed it yet... Its funny, because I came here probably three or four times for lunch. Always got a small table right in front of the window....and usually ordered a pizza. Yummy yes, spectacular, not really.... but then..... I came here for dinner, on a busy evening before I had a play to see at the Throckmorton. I was slightly more dressed up...which is good because my night was a little more fancy...I was taken to the back! Did you even know how big this place is?? No reservations and no wait despite all the people milling around the bar...and the fact it was 6:30 on a Saturday evening. I was taken to the sweetest little table for two, in front of the fireplace, with a nice view of the kitchen and I swear directly next to a certain local latin rock celebrity and his smokin hot wife... but the highlight of the evening was the special...I got this crab pancetta pasta in cream sauce that was amazing...I can't stop telling people about it. I want to run up the side of Mt Tam just so I can have more of it...I could eat it everyday...I almost skipped the concert because I wanted to take my left overs home...(crab probably wouldn't sit well in a car for four hours...) This is a great, friendly, affordable restaurant in Mill Valley...it will not disappoint...

First visit, and definitely not our last! Hubby started off with a delicious spinach salad with Portobello mushrooms, bacon, and gorgonzola cheese. I had, but this really is more of a shared dish, the Frito Misto - fried seafood and veggies with a yummy tartar sauce. For entrees, they had a special of short ribs - no knives needed here folks. So tender - and perfect over mashed potatoes and a sprinkling of sweet peas. I had their pork chop, stuffed with ham and mozzarella cheese. So good! Looking at our neighboring tables, there were many other things that we'd like to try on our next visit. Ravioli and pizza is definitely on our list. The restaurant was pretty packed. Luckily we made reservations. We ended up in a side room that I'm guessing is normally open to the outside. They had up the tarp 'wall' and the heat lamps on - which was fine with me. We actually were glad we sat out there, because the noise level in the actual restaurant/bar got pretty high. We had the nice quiet area to enjoy our meal and not have to shout across the table to each other.

I like this place a lot but the food and service has really gone downhill. Still, it's a great place to meet friends. It's loud but convivial, there's a local crowd, and the bar is great. But where there used to be career waiters, there are now promoted busboys who have three ways of describing wine: full-bodied, lighter, and light-bodied. Where the hell did the sommelier go? Then we were asked if we didn't need no second plates. Yes please, we could use a second plate. No second plate? Yes. Okay. Never mind. I ordered the scallops. Do you want one or two? Uh. Well, is there more than one scallop on the plate? Two. Okay, two. Two orders of scallops. No. One order of scallops. How many scallops are on the plate? Two. Okay then. We'll take it. Two? Oh god, please. We also ordered a scampi dish. Should have asked them to hold the salt. On everything. Again, now that I remember that last time I was here I ordered the mussels, which would have been great except for the heavy-handed salt shaker. Why bother to have a salt shaker on the table? But observe: the people next to us put salt on their dishes without even tasting them first. I nearly choked. While the scallops were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, they tasted like somebody had spilled the salt shaker on them. My tongue was immediately dried out and there was none of that delicate delicious scallop taste underneath. I could have been eating anything. Are they disguising old fish? I could barely taste my light-bodied wine after that. We didn't send back the scampi because it was not as grossly oversalted as the scallops. So next time, pizza, vegetarian, I think, hold the salt, a full-bodied wine, and much lower expectations.

The food here is shit. This is mexican italian at it's best. It amazes me because this place is always packed. I guess Chevy's gets packed too. There is a Wells Fargo bank next door. I highly suggest using Wells fargo, it is a great bank.

Nice comeback! We've been eating here for nearly 20 years, and after a 9 month hiatus since our last visit, we were blown away by the quality of the food. Classics like the Tortellini De La Casa as good as ever, and new dishes (Duck with Wild Rice, Swordfish over Brussels Sprouts and Salmon over Potatoes and Root Veggies were awesome. Service matched the food, great waiter (clear on the point that he is NOT Italian, but "Roman") was knowledgable, friendly and timely. This one's back on our monthly regular list...

Love this place. Good food in a good restaurant. Very consistent, and easy to get a table. I've been there several times, and am in love with the Strozzapreti con Cavolfiore e Uva Sultanina. I know...i had no idea what it was either...and the description took a leap of faith (pasta, cauliflower, raisins, safron sauce). SO good. addictive, really. Desserts aren't always a home run. Had a molton chocolate cake that didn't exactly leak a lot of chocolate (note that I still ate the entire thing). Waitstaff and hosts all very friendly. All in all a hit.

Great ambiance for dinner, and casual enough for a quick lunch. Very fresh, tasty, well prepared....everything! I found myself spending $10-15 every day at Mill Valley Market for lunch, and then I went into D'Angelo and realized I could be eating very, very well for just a little bit more. The service here is pretty good, the owners are very warm and double as the hosts most of the time which I love, it shows a pride of ownership. They greet you when you come in, and make sure you are happy and full when you leave. I highly recommend the sauteed prawns with Spinach and artichoke hearts...its so satisfying but you can still function after..no food coma. the pizza could be crispier in my opinion.

I guess the whole town of Mill Valley LOVES this restaurant but I honestly don't see what all the hee-haw is about. Yes, it's in a nice part of downtown, yes, it's a nice looking establishment, and yes, it's probably been there for years and has probably seen it's share of famous Mill Valley people, whoever they are. Well, their food isn't all that good. The bread and dipping oil was very yummy but my risotto special was actually quite awful. I didn't care for it one bit and ate maybe a third of my meal. My lunch buddies had other dishes, one looked like something I could make at home, for 1.00 yet they were charging like $17.95 or something absurd like that. I mean, if you are going to charge prices like that, give me some food that I can't make in my own kitchen. I know it's Mill Valley but that doesn't mean prices have to be astronomical. That's all I'm saying.

I love that Piazza D'Angelo is open until 11 PM. On evenings that I work late and have no energy to prepare food at home, I head over for my favorite beet salad and a side of garlic roasted potatoes and veggies !! The waiters are friendly and fun, and the owners seem to be there almost every time I go in. They love their restaurant. I'm also a fan of the World Cup, and it's a great place to watch the games.......exciting energy!

This is just a great place for a fun night out with very good food. It is hopping on a weekend night. Some people might call it noisy. It's all a matter of context. The food isn't cutting edge, but it's very good. I've probably eaten here 50 times over the years (it's in my neighborhood) and have rarely been disappointed. The service is terrific. The waiters will do every thing the can to make you happy. You'll see people here in jeans, and people here in gorgeous clothes, and they all seem to feel like they belong. They do a great job with kids, too.

Ahhhh, where everyone knows your name. I'm not sure if i love the fact that I don't actually have to order at Piazza D'Angelos anymore, or if I feel like Cynthia on Sex and the City where she calls the same chinese food place so much that when she calls they just ask her if she wants "the regular"? The secret to have a relatively peaceful dinner at this establishment is to be seated in the back, opposite the fireplace slightly away from the open kitchen area. The wine list isn't something I stare at for too long, but they do have a few nice glasses of Pinot Noir and Chard if that's to your liking. Billy the bartender makes a wicked strong ass lemon drop that'll knock your socks off that I adore. Yes, sometimes I pansy out and drink a martini that has sugar on the rim. Go ahead, laugh now and get it out of your system. What's funny though, is that whenever I order it, whomever I'm with looks at me strange and gives me a "you really gonna do that while I'm sittin' here with you" look, and then takes a sip of mine and ends up ordering one themselves. I recommend slightly annoying your server and asking for something not on the menu anymore for your main dish after starting with the caprese salad. Ask for the Pizza Rustica or the Spaghetti Calabrese. Both basically the same concept, one in pizza form versus pasta. Their pizza crust is good, I mean it's not Florence, Italy here, but it's really quite good. Thin and flaky at the edge, soft in the middle, so you can use your fork and knife THE WAY PIZZA IS SUPPOSED TO BE EATEN FYI!!!!!!!! Arugula, goat cheese, sundried tomatoes and olives, this pizza is great. Change that into pasta and you've got a wonderfully rich dish in front of you that leaves you wanting more. The reason a star gets taken away? That sleezy waiter that continuously hits on me every single time after I've told him no, no thank you. No I don't think so. No f*ck off. I even tried no I'm a lesbian but I think he just wanted to tell me to bring her along. The screaming ankle biters of Mill Valley do make an appearance there, so I recommend going after the little bastards have gone to bed.

We went here recently after a hike in Marin. We sat at the bar and shared a pizza (simple margaritta) that didn't have enough basil on it, and a bit too much cheese. But the bartender was very nice, gave us tastes of different wines before we selected a glass for ourselves, and overall feel of the place was fun and friendly and festive and local. Good vibe. I don't think that we ate enough to really judge the food completely, but the prices were good and the quality seemed fairly high.

We would have given this place a 5 star if not for the bar being so incredibly loud. We had the butternut squash ravioli and one of the pizzas. The raviolis were incredible and the pizza was good, but not to die for. The bread and olive oil was delicious and our waiter was prompt and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice italian dinner.

Piazza D"Angelo has been a community favorite for locals and tourists alike for a long time here in downtown Mill Valley. It is very large for little Mill Valley, with a front room and bar, a large back step-up dining room, and two good sized patio areas, plus three sidewalk tables. It is a great place to come on a weekend or evening in the summer and enjoy the weather while having some decent Italian food, almost like being in Italia except for the German luxury cars of the Marin upwardly mobile and the odd ball down to earth hippy type locals walking the square in their Berkinstocks. Only the brightly suited cyclists are similar, and some of the food here, to Italy. We had an early lunch outside on the sidewalk one weekend. Carpaccio Veneto $10.50 - i hadn't had good Carpaccio, one of my most favorite dishes, in a long time. (I used to love the one at the old Prego's on Union street in SF long time ago). This version had a nice mixture of the raw beef, dry parmesan, olive oil, capers, fresh squeezed lemon, and fresh grounded pepper. They added Arugula, which in my opinion is nice, but not necessary. So this was decent. The Gamberi Carciofi ($11.50) had large shrimp in a nice sauce, and was ok, but nothing special. The Insalata Spinacci, (spinach salad $9.50) was simple but a nice compliment to the richer Carciofi. The Capellini Pomodoro ($12.50) was purposefully simple, the way I like it, and had a nice flavor and al dente texture. A Sangiovese red wine helped balance out the meals ($9.25/glass) Piazza D'Angelo is a nice venue with decent food in a great downtown location, but somewhat overpriced for what you get. They have a wood fired brick oven for pizzas, which are pretty decent. Service was good. On weekends or after the soccer Moms get a little too much wine in them on a busy night, it can get pretty loud in here.

Toni and I had lovely lunch here prior to our relaxation time at Tea Garden Springs. We were the first customers to arrive and by the time we left the restaurant was full. Toni's review already describes what we ordered and of our service. It was a lovely meal and a lovely day.

Piazza D'Angelo is AMAZING!!! The food is great and it always has been, the service is fast and nice and could be, and I don't think I could find any downsides to this restaurant! If you are visiting Mill Valley, or new to the town, or anything, you MUST go here!!! (btw, their desserts are fabulous as well)

Piazza D'Angelo offers a a full menu with a good variety of different meals. Although the fare is Italian overwhelmingly, even the salads were done very well and very fresh. The service was prompt, but made it easy to enjoy good conversation with friends. What I liked about the menu was the relatively uncommon combinations that were included in each dish. My ravioli contained asparagus, pears, cheese and more. The gnocchi was prepared with basil. These combinations were interesting and intriguing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a classy, but casual evening meal in Mill Valley.

Today darling daughter and I had a ladies' day out, my Mother's Day present. It was a spectacularly wonderful day. I'm starting here, but the day started when she arrived shortly before 10:30 bearing a Bakesale Betty's bag containing a consolation prize signature fried chicken sandwich for Alan, a disassembled one for me for later and another for her guy when he gets home tonight. Plus a complimentary strawberry shortcake. What a sweetheart. We drove to Mill Valley, parked downtown and walked around a bit in the sun before coming here for lunch. The restaurant was empty because we were early, but filled up as we were there longer. A basket of breads, one white, one whole wheat w/ walnuts arrived w/ butter. We each had a glass of a very nice Italian Sauvignon Blanc. We split a Fritto Misto con Verdure di Stagione w/ deep fried squid, tiger prawns, scallops, sea bass, asparagus, broccoli, bell peppers, and sage, served w/ tartar and marinara sauces. There were lots of tentacles and rings and everything else was terrific. It was perfectly cooked. We shared an Insalata con Fagioli e Noci, a lovely salad w/ organic baby lettuce, shaved fennel, imported butter beans, toasted walnuts, shaved Parmesan w/ a whole grain mustard and balsamic vinegar dressing. They split it for us w/o our even asking. Finally we split a Pizza Quattro Stagioni w/ imported prosciutto cotto, asparagus, artichokes, mushrooms, mozzarella, basil and tomato sauce. We had the option of anchovies, but demurred. The pizza was artfully arranged, though differently than we had anticipated, w/ two slices w/ mushrooms, two w/ artichoke hearts, two w/ prosciutto and two w/ cheese. Asparagus spears delineated the quadrants. The crust was light and subtly sweet. It was an exquisite pizza and we couldn't finish it. Two slices were left. Service was attentive and warm. Four and a half stars.

If I would've written this review a few years ago I probably would've given 5 stars but this place just isn't the same anymore. I mean it's still pretty good but it was better. Piazza D'Angelo has pretty good pizza. The zuppa di pesce is very tasty (but like I said used to be better). For desert I would recommend the creme brulee. Take advantage of the beautiful shops around this restaurant and go around lunch time when they're still open. It's something to do after (or before your meal)

By the second time you come here, you feel like a member of the family. The owners, Domenico and Paulo in particular, are almost always there, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Food is consistently good -- some Italian favorites, and always a few surprises on the specials that remind you we are in California. Atmosphere is nice, but not stuffy -- you could come here for a romantic dinner for two, or lunch after playing tennis. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Open later than any place in Mill Valley (which, unfortunately, isn't saying too much -- don't try to find food after midnight in this town!).

Ok, had to bump it back up. I really did miss this place and I was having a hard week so I decided it was time to come back. (And I had to promise that if service was bad again, we would never come back here) The garlic pesto dipping sauce is so great with the walnut bread! I love it! I ordered the roasted duck with fingerling potatoes. It was a little salty for me. Jeff ordered the Tagliolini alle Vongole - noodles with garlic and clams in a white wine sauce. The sauce was so good! I kept dipping the bread in it. We also got an order of grilled asparagus and a tiramisu. As we were digging in, I mentioned to the waiter that we didn't receive our asparagus yet. I guess he forgot. I'm noticing a pattern at this place - the waiters are pretty forgetful. Also, service can be slow, even though the place wasn't crowded at that hour. But, the tiramisu was good so all was forgiven.

I've been here twice and tried about 5 or 6 dishes that were shared with the table. The food is average and fairly bland. The service is great and the atmosphere pleasant, but the food just isn't worth a visit. There is room for improvement here...

Went here on Sunday. Thought it would be good based on the menu and location, but the pasta was chewy and undercooked. Good/inexpensive Kir Royale though. And good bread.

i am editing my review of piazza...cuz something great has manifested here. not only is the service great here, but so is the food! damn! im so into it. last week i came here twice. the chef's specials are always done well. i had the braised beef ravioli with a argue...OFF THE HOOK! then i went back yesterday for the same and it was off the menu boo, but instead i had the tagliari (sp?)--wide noodles, with their beef tomato sauce ( i know i was in a beefy mood), and asked for a half portion with a side of broccoli rabbe. truly satisfying. really. they also have this baked wild shrimp with an almond crust (its a salad) that is wonderful. uh huh. not only great service, but comforting simple food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants, but today, the service was disappointing. A friend and I went for Sunday brunch. She was considering the steak and eggs. Before ordering, she asked the waiter if they had steak sauce and he assured her that they did. Therefore, she ordered the steak and eggs. When her meal arrived, she asked for the steak sauce. The waiter returned with his regrets that they didn't have any, they couldn't find it. We waited for him to offer to send someone to the market, which was 2 blocks away, to get some steak sauce but no such offer was made. We noticed a couple of bus boys and a hostess standing around. The restaurant wasn't busy. Wouldn't it have been better customer service to send someone to the market to get some steak sauce after misleading a customer?

From everything to atmosphere, authenticity, and ambiance Piazza D'Angelo is awesome! We sat close by the bar, but did not find it noisy. My wife and I were vacationing in the area and we really enjoyed the visit. My wife ate the pizza and I had the Capellini Pomodoro and Pollo (Rosemary Chicken). Both excellent. The Capellini was very flavorful with tomatos and basil. It was incredible! The pasta was al dente. Everything was cooked extremely well and you have to try it! As for the Pollo...wow. It was complately engulfed in an incredible aroma of rosemary. It was warm and steamed throught. I ate the whole piece of chicken. The vegetables were incredible including the carrots! At the end after the bread, chicken, and pasta...we decided not to get dessert. Next time for sure we will be back with our child since it is very kid friendly! Thanks, Michael S.

Very disappointing. The butternut squash soup was OK. The pear / asparagus ravioli was weird - and not in a good way - and dripping in oil. The special risotto was just a plate of rice with some veggies stirred in - more like a rice pilaf than risotto. Service was unbelievably quick - we were literally in and out - with drinks, appetizers and entrees - in 40 minutes. We won't be going back.

This place confounds me. It's a huge, happenin' scene on the weekend, but the food is really not very good at all. The menu looks appealing enough, but the execution is lacking. Nothing disgusting, just very very mediocre. Also, the interior could use some perking up. I was in there once on a weekday for lunch, and in the nearly empty restaurant you could really see the general wear and tear on the place. My friend goes there every week and loves it, but she has found something she likes and orders that every single time. I guess if you find one good thing on the menu, you'll be in good shape.

We stopped here for lunch after receiving recommendation from a local resident. The ristorante is very large with outdoor patio seating and a bar. I had the capellini pomodoro which was sauteed summer tomatoes over pasta with olive oil, basil and parmesan cheese. My husband had the conchigile a la contadina. Both our dishes were delicious. Service was attentive and friendly.

I had a wonderful birthday dinner here a few years back, and some how have just now found the time to yelp it! I had a nice pasta with italian sausage, red sauce, and nice garlic, and roasted peppers. The dessert was divine. I need to go back asap to get a more detailed review, but I remember my experience, and I know that the night there was exactly what I wanted, without any prior knowledge ot this nice establishment.

This use to be one of our favorites in Mill Valley. Went recently, they have changed the menu, Price have gone way up, but food has gone down. still good just not worth the new price. $20 for roast chicken and a few veggies was just too much compared to other places. Bread and dip has changed, the once wonderful olive oil herb garlic dip is different and tasteless compared to the old one. So I guess it is now a good place for a diet.

This has been one of my neighborhood eateries for more years then I'm willing to say. A lovely restaurant as far as the decor and layout go, with several outside dining areas for the nice weather, and a roaring fireplace for the wet winter months. The food here is incredibly dependable. , and the menue only changes slightly with the seasons. A good Minestrone, ditto their Ceasar Salad. The Seafood Stew is one of their best offerings, ...also a fine Duck in a Balsamic sauce. Fine home made pastas, good if not great pizza. And a huge tray of fattening deserts which they wheel to your table. They fall down in the service department, which can be agonizingly slow and chock full of attitude. I've also been given the wrong check on a couple of occasions, so check your bill carefully.

Date night last night was supposed to be in the city but I was determined to try another restaurant in Mill Valley beside Vasco. After all, its kind of embarrassing that I've lived here for five months and the only restaurant I've been to is one I went to before I even lived here. The BF is an authentic wood-fired oven pizza fiend and wine snob extrordinarie, so it wasn't hard to convince him to try Piazza D'Angelo. I was shocked at how many tables there were when we walked through the door and frankly it was really off-putting. It was also incredibly loud, which was also really off-putting. However they offered us quiet table in this enclosed outdoor heated porch area which was really nice (once they turned the heater on overhead). The garlic olive oil in a little paint pot on the table was kind of gross - at an Italian restaurant I want good crusty bread and good green olive oil. Weird dark walnut-studded bread belongs on the table of a different type of restaurant with good fluffy butter. The beet salad was good, though plain - the beets were really inconsistent in size which probably means they didn't come out of a can, but they still tasted like they were can-bound at some point. The organic baby greens were perfect. I had the Pizza con Chiodini e Arugula, which was really fantastic. Fontina was a good choice for this combination. Chiodini mushrooms are those teeny ones that kind of look like a peg. They are mild in flavor but added a nice faux-meatiness to the pizza. BF had the butternut squash ravioli, and it was kind of disappointing to him. I didn't try it, but it didn't look all that appetizing. I highly recommend the Tuscan blend we ordered: 2000 Infinito (SuperTuscan) Castello Monastero (90 in WS). The markup is only $10, so its a pretty good buy. The service was only slightly flighty and distracted - we were her only table on the porch, which made for a very awkward section. I forgive her. I'll definitely hit this local spot up again, but probably just sit at the bar, drink wine and eat pizza.

Been some time, since I have eaten at D'Angelo, and what was I thinking. This staple of Mill Valley, and more so Marin County, makes for a joyous, incredible evening of dinner every time I go. Most of the the time it is for a birthday, or some celebration. While there are many good restaurants to choose from in sleepy Mill Valley, like Vasco, Bungalow 44 or El Paseo. D'Angelo is the tride and true fall back restaurant. Prices are right, ambiance is a combination of comfortable and not pretentious and the food always tastes good! Side note, restaurants are the only thing really jumping off past 7 pm on any given night of the week. If you are coming on a weekend night, Friday nights are the busiest, make a reservation a day in advance. If you want peace and quiet, ask for a seat in the back of the restaurant. Sitting in front is a bit more fun, surrounded by people and activity. Back is dull. And there are a few seats "outside on a covered patio" too. Got there early, and we entertained ourselves at the bar. Promptly seated. Water and bread came quickly. Bread was good, and three baskets disappeared before meals were even ordered. Extensive wine list to choose from, can pick up waiters and diners speaking Italian and people watching is perfect. Ordered the Fontina and Arugula stuffed Chicken. Should have asked for another helping. Steak and ravioli, looked and tasted good, after I begged for a try. Cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. And make sure to add the insalta mista or another side salad to the order. Skip the Cesar, not that good.

Pizza D'Angelo is really nothing special. Although the food was decent, nothing really stands out about it. Service was really lacking. Our salad and soup plates were still on the table when our entrees were served and since the wait staff had their hands full, we had to hold our plates out of the way while the placed our entrees. In addition, drink glasses went empty for long periods of time. They also have packed too many tables in. One of our party was constantly being bumped when the waiters walked between our table and the one next to us on the way to the kitchen. (There were other routes available.) Week nights are probably best since it is quieter. On weekend nights, the bar turns into "Desperate Divorcees."

It was good, but not great. Waiter was good- friendly, efficient, helpful. But the food was just OK. And the atmosphere was really not as nice as I expected. The restaurant interior is just OK, does not make you think, "what a great space.". The view back into the restaurant towards the kitchen is pretty bad. Also the men's room smelled awful. For dinner we shared a spinach salad and mushroom pasta. The salad was overly dressed, but I liked the mushrooms added. The pasta was good with quality mushrooms, but was just lacking something. For my main I got the burger, which was just OK, but that was my fault, because I did not know what to order. So all in all, if I lived in Mill Valley, I would probably drop by for pasta. But for out of towners, probably go some place else.

I LOVE Piazza D'Angelo!! My parents and I stumbled upon this great Italian restaurant while delivering flowers in the bay area. We walked into a completely packed house, but they were still able to seat us right away and NOT next to the kitchen, so nice! The food here is excellent. The bread service is yummy and has several kinds of bread, including a fantastic focaccia and one of the best dipping sauces I've ever had at a restaurant (EVOO and some kind of herb mixture, so good). The pasta entrees range from $13-17, a great deal for such a unique and tasty selection. I had the ravioli with butternut squash drizzled with a balsamic vinegar reduction...it was the perfect blend of sweet and savory AND the perfect portion size. My mom ordered the ravioli stuffed with pears, shallots, and asparagus, and although I preferred my meal, hers was tasty as well. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our waiter was especially nice and made some great meal recommendations, including his dessert suggestion of the lemon cookie which was a citrusy, tart, perfect end to a great meal. If I could give Piazza D'Angelo 6 stars, I would. The food was out of this world and the atmosphere was so much fun, they even had old classic black and white films projected onto the walls! I can't wait to find an excuse to come back to Mill Valley and try more of the unique dishes at Piazza D'Angelo.

OK the Fritti/calamari was good...the cheese pizza was good...reasonable price. But what was with that bitchy waitress with the attitude? I dont know...my friend and I are attractive...and the waitress was not. .....so we tend to think that it was a female thing. Come on, you know how women are. It could happen! When we were seated we had such a borderline hostile attitude from the waitress. For nothing. It took her 10 minutes to get my friend water AFTER I got my Mojito. Also, halfway through the meal we noticed that EVERYONE around us had bread served...and we got NONE. My friend also noticed that after she asked for a second glass of water, the waitress forgot, and had to be reminded again. She got a 4% tip. So the attitude and the lousy forgetful service killed the experience.

Now that Balboa opened down the street, I can safely walk into D'Angelo's without being visually assaulted by any one of the multitude of aging men who used to reside on the bar stools. The bar is eons more enjoyable, the restaurant has the same, good food at decent prices. Love the pesto dip at the start, the spinach salad (subbing goat for blue), the roasted chicken, pizzas. Only thing I havent tried is the pasta. Menu is big enough to please all. Mangia!

Had a late lunch today...trying out the new chef...pasta with chanterelles and thyme..cooked perfectly, but sitting in a 1/4 cup of olive oil...burrata with capay farms heirloom tomatoes, olives and olive oil...light fluffy goodness and juicy tomatoes, all soaked up with toasted wheat bread...finished with two AWESOME desserts from their longtime pastry chef courtney luddon...fruit tart filled with vanilla pastry cream and covered with perfect fresh berries....last was a chocolate cremeaux that was super smooth and creamy, with crunchy brittle sprinkled around for texture....service was great...sat at the bar and erin took great care of me...the restaurant has been a mill valley favorite for two decades with good reason...make sure to say "hi" to natale the gm

The tortolloni della casa is phenomenal. I also really love the pesto they serve with the bread, before the meal. So much classier than butter. Also classy: the outside patio when it's warm outside. It's very solid Italian food and has been consistently so for years now. Lovely tiramisu. They lose a star for having occasionally lousy service. Word to the wise: forgetting your customers for half an hour at time is no good.

A Mill Valley local story of intrigue. A bit pretentious, and fixated on presenting a look. Regardless the space has an open feel (unusual for Mill Valley; surrounded by red woods) and the food is well plated and freshly enjoyable, cost aside. I recommend the sun dried tomato pasta.

This is one of our 4 most favorite Marin restaurants ! Food can be hit or miss but if you order the pasta or pizza it's a hit. Busy and fun place to be seen. It's a real local gathering place, and the service is always terrific. Very friendly and they go out of their way to give you whatever you want. Can't go wrong eating here.

D'Angelo is pretty much the only "happening" place in Mill Valley. By that I mean, this is where the locals come to feel like they are engaging in some sort of nightlife scene. They get dressed up, flirt, drink, and strut around. D'Angelo has nice ambiance. I wasn't wowed by it, but it's nice. The dining area in the back is positioned underneath a vast skylight, which I thought was a cool touch. The only downside is that this restaurant is incredibly loud. It's obviously extremely busy here, even if the rest of the town is closed at before dark. As far as the food, it depends on what you order. I had a shell-shaped pasta that was somewhat bland with chicken that was somewhat rubbery. The other people at my table had tasty meals, so I guess it's hit or miss. Overall, D'Angelo is just fine. I would come here based on the small restaurant options in this sleepy little town, but I wouldn't come from the city to get there.

Took a drive over the Golden Gate on Sunday May 18, 2008 and enjoyed a good brunch--with the Fiorentino poached eggs on a French rool with bechamel and blanched spinach. It was competent, welcome brunch fare, if not groundbreaking. Service was attentive and the setting just off Throckmorton in the village of Mill Valley is pleasing.

Excellent! I hold back one star because we were seated on the patio, and although the gas heater was on, we were still freezing! We ordered a spinach and Gorgonzola salad for the 3 of us and not a leaf was left on the plate. My entree was the butternut squash ravioli and it was absolute perfection. I wish I could give the full 5 stars.

Excellent Italian food with a great setting and ambiance. Went on a Sunday night and I don't think any of the owners were there. But the two running the place--both incredibly attractive twenty somethings, one boy one girl (FUN FOR EVERYONE!)--made the experience a little bit more exciting than your run of the mill upscale Italian yawn yawn yawn. They obviously love their job, and though they spent most of the night socializing with each other and the other waiters (and I think even playing hangman! Sundays are much slower than Friday and Saturday nights I was told) they were attentive and courteous to everyone as they came in and out of the place and seemed to flawlessly handle the evening rush. First impressions are everything for me, and these two just have it down. So lively and young! The food was just as impressive. The host suggested the Conchiglie alla Contadina when he sat us (shell pasta with chicken, broccoli, and sun-dried tomatoes in a white wine sauce), saying it was his childhood favorite. The man has great taste. A perfectly balanced stand alone full meal, perhaps a bit too salty but that's probably because I asked my waiter to douse it with cheese. The BF had a pizza from their wood-fire oven that was as thin and crisp as the pizza we had in Naples! Our waiter was knowledgeable, curtious, and prompt. Overall, this place is a winner. A great time with great food, beverages, and eye candy. An exciting place to have in this sleepy little town.

Not bad for out of the City...I don't necessarily see myself making the drive out to go here (too...country?) but it was nice to have good food while out on business. Yes, it does say Roasted Airline chicken. Hopefully Airline is a brand/line/stock and not a direct reference to Northwest or Southwest airline chicken which is, frankly, unfresh. It was tasty and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were good as well. Willing to host a rowdy bunch out on an offsite business meeting and that's all good to me. Thanks to our wonderful server who took care of all of our needs.

My favorite place to eat in Marin. Love the atmosphere and the service, recently they came up with a Sunday $20, three course meal, it is incredibly good! Their pizza's are amazing, and that special pesto dip with bread is simply out of this world.

Everyone at our table agreed that the pizza was subpar. The server couldn't remember who ordered what and needed to be reminded a second time to bring things we'd requested. However, they do serve a decent glass of Montepulchiano for only $6.

I'm sad to downgrade my rating of our old favorite Italian restaurant. We recently had dinner at Piazza and were disappointed to see the menu had changed and the quality of food had gone downhill. We used to love the pesto they serve with the bread, now it's no longer flavorful. It seems to be missing garlic or herbs. The fish was overcooked and boring, and worst of all, my beloved, rich butternut squash ravioli had been changed to a bland version that included too much ricotta and too little squash. The waiter, who was barely proficient in English, asked us three times in quick succession if we wanted drinks, not giving us time to peruse the wine list. When I did go to order wine, he had no knowledge of the wines, and described the one I asked about as "good". Saying a wine is "good" is not at all helpful. He did let me have a taste, which was helpful, but I still think the waiters should know the wines. After his hurry to make us order drinks, he took a long time actually bringing the wine to our table. When we were done eating, a couple of helpers swooped in to clear our table quickly, seeming to discourage any lingering. After almost 15 years of frequenting Piazza d'Angelo, and sharing many special meals there, we realized after our meal that it was the meal that marked the end of an era for us there, and we'll be looking around for a new favorite Italian restaurant.

My wife and I live in Mill Valley, and this is by far and away our favorite restaurant. Excellent food, terrific wine list featuring a diverse range of Italian wines, very attentive waiters, and the list goes on. The owners are always there; they are obviously very concerned about maintaining quality. When out of town visitors come, we take them here and they always love it.

The best part about D'Angelo was that the atmosphere in this restaurant was fun and loud. We loved the ambiance and the movie playing on the wall. The food and service left a lot to be desired. My husband ordered a plate of olives which were really bad and they had run out so we only got 4-5 to share among three adults. The bread was stale. My son tipped over dipping sauce, we asked for more and never got it. We asked for refills on drinks, didn't see anyone for quite a while, then had to ask again- finally got them. Our three entrees were just "alright", nothing memorable or even delicious. We only ate all of our food because none of us had eaten very much all day- and we needed something to fill us up. I am guessing we probably won't be going back. Nothing Angel-like about this place.

Interesting combination of food, but merely average quality. A server is a very important part of the dining experience and unfortunately, the waiter seemed nice enough, but just seemed like he was just there because it was a job he had to do. :-P Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows? I'm such a judgmental bitch. Thanks yelp. Thanks for turning me into a lame wannabe food critique diva. Would I go back to the restaurant? Sure why not. But I'd rather explore Mill Valley and see what else they have to offer.

3 1/2 stars. I love the pesto dipping yumyum that they serve with the bread. I used to crave this. The food is pretty good. I usually have some sort of pasta dish and have never really been dissappointed from them. They have a full bar with lots of grappa, for those of you who can handle that. During warmer days you may opt to dine on the patio or be in the dining room with the roof top open. The restaurant I believe (this is solely based on my personal opinion) is run by the mafioso. Don't really know if it is, but I get this feeling.

the new chef is better than the last BUT that being said the bread is still so stale --! and the food is very ordinary..except the burrata -which is great! Ordinary pasta tastes like window curtains ? the location must keep this restaurant in business? The food taste as if nobody cares?

The branding does not do the food justice. This was overlooked by my dining companion and I many times because the awning looks like a pizza shack tucked in between fine dining establishments. How wonderful to discover it's an Italian restaurant with thoughtfully refined food that is able to maintain an old world backbone. Starters included: Il Bruschettone - grilled filone bread brushed with garlic and topped with fresh tomato, basil, oregano, niocoise olives, fresh mozzarella, arugala and Piazza D'Angelo extra virin olive oil AND the Insalata Mista con Barbabietole - organic baby lettuce, beets, shaved aged ricotta, all grain mustard and balsamic vinegar dressing. The starters were surpisingly filling, so we split the Conchiglie alla Contadina - small shell shaped pasta sauteed with chicken, sun dried tomatoes, broccoli, garlic, chili peppers, white wine, and pecorino cheese. Should have tasted the dish before having the aged parmesan add more salt to it, but it was a simple yet lovely dish. Can't wait for warmer weather to enjoy the patio dining that is currently covered but in use. People watching is pretty interesting in here.

Hmmm ... had a sausage pizza here. It was ok - a little greasy and the sausage was in thick slices on top - more like the cucumber-sized version of a pepperoni topping (I prefer it crumbly to forget what it is). The waiter suggested adding caramelized onions, so we did - I'm no chef, but I thought yellow, not red, onions are the caramelizing kind. Speaking of the waiter, he was as bubbly as a Sprite, but a little pushy on getting us to order more - but alas, those chunky sausage slices had sunk to the bottom of our stomaches like rings to the bottom of a pool.

Yea it was alright. Cute location, good ambiance (though a little airy versus the all famous intimate setting), and pretty damn good food. I had the herb chicken with potatoes and vegetables. All fresh and not overly cooked or seasoned. Impressed that there was no hint of microwaveable food on my plate. Service was nothing to rave about but descent. Overall, a satisfactory experience!

The owners who always seem to be there are the very best at making you feel welcomed. The best calamari in town. Service is first class. Entertaining scene. Highly recommended. Jina

I had brunch here during an important World Cup soccer game. Our waiter was distracted by it, but you could tell he was sort of ashamed of himself for neglecting my table, and it was kind of cute, actually. I had some sort of sinful french toast concoction that did not disappoint.

Had a great meal here last week with Pops. It is deceptively large in there! Service was a little on the slow side, but we didn't mind since we were in that vacation state of mind. I had lamb, which was perfectly cooked (still a little pink in the middle, which I enjoy). The wine was fantastic too, although I can't remember now what it was. Still, a great meal and a great start to my trip.

I used to think this was one of the best restaurant's in Mill Valley, back in the 90's. Three different times I had the worse experience with not only the food, but also the service, unfortunately I was with 3 friends and they also thought it was bad, bad, bad. So, let me start by one of the owner's behavior. My capellini I ordered was almost raw, how could the cook screw up capellini. Not too long ago I ordered the chicken so was one of my friends, they brought it raw in the inside, sent it back and after 20 minutes waiting they brought it overcooked, you could tell it was microwaved. I asked to speak to the owner, I watched him go to the kitchen inmediately to avoid talking to me. As far as I am concern that's a wrong behavior for an owner of a restaurant, our waitress was lovely, she tried her best to make the situation better, but it got worse, I walked by the kitchen and overheard this man(one of the owners) screaming saying that he didn't care if we walked out and never cameback, we were not going to get a free meal. That was not what we were asking for. Oh, I forgot he called us bitches. Of course they won't see my face again of any of the many friends I have in MV. I live here.

This restaurant is very upscale and the food is wonderful. BUT, they really are snobby there and they don't make families with young children feel welcome. We live in Mill Valley and have a toddler and we have learned our lesson to avoid this place.

Tried the bar and the restaurant before and after the show at 142 Throckmorton. I don't get to Mill Valley all that often, but they do seem to have a few Italian restaurants. Drink at the bar was good and strong - service fast given the crowd. After the show the place was slammed as all the other restaurants seem to close up shop at 10pm This one stayed open until 11pm. Smart move. I had the Risotta and sauage, which was good enough to eat again for lunch the next day. Price on the glass of red wine was $7 - not too bad. I would go again and try more things. Nice atmosphere - convivial and intimate.

We go here about once a month for breakfast/brunch. Good menu/ Good prices/Great service. My mom loves their french toast and I am generally pleased with everything on their breakfast menu plus they have inexpensive mimosas and bloody mary's. But we just went there for Mother's Day and the menu was dumbed down, the prices were tripled, the food was Really Disappointing and you'd think the waiter had never tended a table before...he was a nice guy but an awful, non-trained waiter.

We happened to stumble across this restaurant by accident while just looking for somewhere to eat. Great choice! I absolutely loved the butternut squash ravioli's with sage & tomato. We all really enjoyed our meals & the price was very reasonable. Finished up with the molten chocolate cake which was very good although surprisingly, slightly on the dry side. Overall very good. Would go back again, no problem.

Mill Valley may be home to some of the wealthiest people in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's a quaint town, a place where folks walk the down town area with both their young children and their dogs. It is not, however, a restaurant destination. I guess the close proximity to San Francisco along with the sky high rents that have left glaring vacancies in the downtown area, makes opening a restaurant here a sketchy proposition. We happened to be in Mill Valley on a recent Sunday afternoon and desired a good meal before hooking up with friends. We had been to Piazza D'Angelo several times over the years. Walking through the downtown area it appeared that all of the local restaurants were closed @ 4PM to get ready for the dinner crowds. That left only Piazza D' Angelo. We entered and were seated immediately as the restaurant appeared empty with most of the clientele seated at the bar to watch the football game on TV. The waiter got our drink order which consisted of mineral water and a coke, as we scanned the menu. After our drinks came we ordered immediately.. Our selection of the Spinach salad proved to be a good one the salad was topped with chopped mushrooms and onions with a scraping of cheese in a very tasty vinaigrette. The place began filling up when we ordered our entrees. Here's where the review takes one of it's biggest hits. The wait for our entrees. We noticed that folks at the tables surrounding us, people who placed their orders like 15 minutes after ours were enjoying their meals while we patiently waited. After a good 20 minutes my wife asked the server how long it would be to get our entrees. The guy, who spoke Italian, said something to us, 6 minutes was the only thing decipherable. 15 minutes later our entrees arrived. Folks who were seated and ordered their food long after us, were leaving. Now I must say that the food was good. The butternut squash ravioli was sensational ~ all 8 small raviolis, that were arranged in a circle on my large plate. The pork chops that my wife ordered came to the table warm, not hot, however, they were charbroiled very well and very tasty. My wife used the ladies room there. And the soap dispenser was all automatic ~ a fancy schmancy electric one. The only thing is it didn't work. A waitress so happened to be there as my wife struggled to get a drop of soap out of it. "Oh that happens all the time," the waitress cheerily declared skipping washing her hands entirely. Uggg. When I used the washroom, the soap and paper towel dispensers did work fine although the basket was overflowing and there was a lot of paper on the floor. Getting the check was another wait. When we finally asked our server for it, he replied as he did throughout our meal, "Of Course," as in, of course I'll take my sweet time getting you your check. The food was good however the service was horrible. Maybe in Mill Valley mellowness and slow are code words for good service. I don't know. But we were there for a good 2 hours and were $70 shorter for the experience. And all we had with dinner was soda and water. Too bad there weren't any other alternatives. That's the only thing that Piazza D'Angelo has going for it.

This restaurant has great bread and olive oil, served before your meal, but everything else tastes fairly mediocre. It is definitely a scene though, as there is always a Ferrari or a Bentley parked outside by the valet, letting you know your place in the food chain of capitalism. Fun, energetic scene, but excruciatingly mediocre food. Go to Poggio's in Sausalito for the good stuff.

Austin de Lone and his family (Lesley and Caroline) took my mother and I to D'Angelo's while we were visiting them in Mill Valley over the holidays. I LOVED it. When we walked in, people screamed! The restaurant was full of families and interesting diners: The musician Lorin Rowan table-hopped to our table twice! The restaurant was buzzing. Definitely a place to see and to be seen. My risotto dish was out of this world, and the Martinis were sizzling too. Recommended for a fun and glamorous night out!

I'd pretty much call this my "dive" restaurant. Does that make me evil? Does that make me snobbish? Does that plant me firmly in the category of "delusional hipster"? I'd probably say the last. Waydaminit. I'm not hip, nor do I pretend to be. Although I think I doth may protesteth too much... (see Missouri Lounge review). My "local" card enables me to roll into this bar/restaurant on a Friday night in my sweats and despicable shoes without a second thought. Yep. Walk right past the Lambo parked out front, of course stereotypically driven by a short, balding dude with a bad tan. How does that guy do that? What? Oh, you want me to describe the place? It varies, which is why I've given it four stars. Sometimes it's dressed-up mediocrity, like calling a town square a "piazza". Other times the food is fantastic and it makes me quite happy in my nappy. Much like the Italian owners who have been here for so long I think they practice their Italian accent more than their American one, this place is caught in an identity crisis. Whereas it used to be the best game in town when the town was merely affluent, it now comes off as falling slightly behind the curve in this age of superstar restaurants and decadent dining experiences. The first time I strolled in and see "Breakfast at Tiffany's" projected onto the interior wall, I thought, "Cool! How does that fit in with the theme? F**k if I know. But still cool nonetheless." The fourth time I wandered in and saw, you guessed it, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" playing on the wall, I had two reactions: 1: I would be careful that the wall doesn't suffer burn-in. 2: Fercrissakes, you GOTTA have more than 1 dvd in the library. Please!! They have 1 beer on tap. I think I may have applauded the Missouri in Berzerkley for only having a reasonable number of taps, but one just seems a little light for me. To rely upon bottles as your main transport for yeasty goodness seems a little on the "Hey We're Going On a Picnic Grab the Plastic Utensils" side of things... I will give them credit for a good wine selection. Whereas I am definitely NOT a sommelier or anything pretentious as that (hey buddy, back down. I would totally love to be a pretentious sommelier but I think I have already killed a bajillion brain cells and, as an unexpected side effect, a kajillion taste buds... ) I can tell a merlot from a Carlos Rossi table red, but beyond that, I might as well be blindfolded and bobbing for apples. One significant ding (yes, that is an official food critic term) is this experience I had: Lunch expedition. With my boss. Outside patio. Relatively busy. I can see the server has probably 5 tables, all in various states of consumption. He's one of the newer guys. Nice enough, but I am unsure if they were short-handed because he seemed to spend an awful lot of time NOT on the patio. If he also had tables inside, fair enough. But the food took a mighty long time. I'm patient. It was mighty. Ordered a lovely risotto. I do not have many things that make me go "Urgh. There goes my appetite." But the one that I do have is hairs in my food. And whaddyaknow, 1 nice curly black hair in my risotto. 4 bites in. I show it to him. He takes it away, offers to replace it with something; I politely say no and tell him I've lost my eating mojo. He apologizes again blahblahblah. I get the bill at the end of the meal. There's no charge for the risotto, but a true high-end restaurant would've seen that I was a regular, seen the situation for what it was, and done something/anything to say to me "We're sorry. It's our bad. We'll make sure the kitchen staff are wearing their hairnets and/or their pants. Here's the meal on us." It wasn't an extravagant meal by any means. It was busy enough that they could eat the meal (no pun intended) without going into a restaurant coma. OK. No more blabbering. Here's the synopsis: I like the place. The hostesses are tasty. The food is tasty when done right. The staff is likable. Its problems involve identity and consistency.

Solid Italian restaurant on Mill Valley's main square. Been there and doing good business for many many years. The food is generally very good with many seasonal specialties. The restaurant has a great environment with a big bar, covered patio, fireplaces, and high ceilings. The wine list is excellent and I'm always tempted to try new things when I go to Piazza D'Angelo. Eating here is also a very "Marin" experience. Lots of locals come here, and you usually have some guys pull up in front of the restaurant in their Bentley or Ferrari's.

More of a scene, a place to be seen, than a place to see. Having said that, the food is solid if not imaginative, and would make a festive location for a scene and to be seen. Yet, the balance between the price and the pedantic food is skewed. Best if you go in a Bentley or a Ferrari.

On Father's day, we showed up right at peak dinner time. We had our 10 month old puppy with us and asked the GM, Natale if he could place a table outside for us. Without any hesistation a table was placed outside. Natale and the staff were outstanding. The pasta with clams and the risotto were outstanding. Most importantly, they offered a bowl of water for our puppy...huge bonus points to us. They offered to let us taste our wine choice prior to ordering to make sure that we liked it and then to top it off, we ordered dessert, which was fabulous (fruit torte) and they did not charge us for it. When we went in to thank Natale, his response was "we appreciate your business and your puppy was so well behaved". We definitely will return to Piazza D'Angelo.....Marin needs more restaurants like this.

D'angelo's Restaurant is conveniently located in downtown Mill Valley with plenty of parking scattered around the front and not far from the door. HATS OFF to the "Head Chef" and the staff responsible for the preparation of these dishes. Much effort has gone into making sure the dining experience is a GREAT one... and it is. D'angelo's has a very diverse menu... appealing to all sorts of "tastes". At one point, I ordered the "Squid-Ink" pasta and noticed it wasn't on the menu the next time I visited. I asked for it and it wasn't a problem... they made it just for me. I felt special and I felt TOTALLY content... it truly is fabulous. A must try! Fantastic desserts, as well!

A friend took me here after a lovely day at the beach. I liked the restaurant. The ambiance was a typical upscale Italian place, pretty nice but nothing to get terribly excited about. I got the raviolli stuffed with butternut squash, pine nuts, etc. It was quite tasty and they didn't serve gigantic proportions, which I appreciate. The pesto dipping sauce they give you with the bread was way good. The service was great - very knowledgable when we didn't know of a particular wine they offered and super fast. Overall, a perfectly lovely place... although I was in a lovely day induced coma, so that might have had something to do with it.

I've loved this place since I moved to Mill Valley three years ago and go there frequently, but I have to say they did an outstanding job when I set up a dinner reception there for 43 guests. They were more than accomodating with setting up the larger room and I'm so grateful. The food was outstanding, we had our favorite wait staff, and everyone who came was just raved about the food and ambiance. Thank you, thank you!!!

Went here for the first time to an event hosted by an employer for his staff. The outdoor room was awfully tight for our group of about 20. The best parts of the meal were the appetizers, the bread, and the wine. The salad was just greens with a sliver of a roasted beet. Actually the risotto I had was quite good, but my date's fish entree was tasteless, and the people who had the lamb received minuscule portions. The host was very dissatisfied with what he received for the $4500.00 event. I thought the evening was pretty nice until I heard what was paid for it. The service was good although it was irritating that the staff turned off the outdoor heaters and stopped serving us water and coffee when they wanted us to leave. Overall, I would say the food quality is hit or miss, and the prices are exorbitant for what you get. It might be a good place for regular dining, but do not schedule a group event here.

This is a good place on the way to somewhere else. I am often in the mood for Italian as I head back to the city from a: bike in the country, a hike in the country, a trip to the shore. They have the best olive oil, chopped olive and mushoom dip with various breads ever! And the decor is very sleek. The entrees, etc. are one step down from the decor, but so what - I just want to put the feedbag on. Though, I really enjoyed the pizza margarheta - very smoky with the wood-fired oven. My guest enjoyed the stuffed chicken breast on a bed of mashed potatoes, seared asparagus on the side. Why drive all the way back to the city, when you can relax here and enjoy that last bit of your trip? I like it.

Dad had the airline chicken - and ate every morsel. We've since been back for pizza midweek, which was thin and cheesy plus a good price. The only negative is the visible disappointment when you only order an entree. Which we make up for with a full bottle of wine, so chill waiters, at least we're not tee-totallers.

Eh..I've had better food. I suppose I'm pampered by living so close to such good Italian restaurants in the city, but I'm not that picky of a girl. D'Angelo's just didn't cut it. I don't know...there's just nothing that great about it.

We actually left the City last night and drove 8 miles to Mill Valley, in the rain I add, and met another couple at D'Angelo's. The hostess immediately sat us at our table, love when a busy tratatoria honors reservations. It is March Madness so the bar noise level was understandably high . The server allowed us ample time to relax before ordering and did an exceptional job of serving us for the next 2.5 hours. The soup and main course came well prepared. Not gourmet, but well prepared. A wholesome meal at a fair price. It was a fun evening because of the company and would choose to explore other restaurants in the area prior to returning. A walk in the rain after dinner topped off the evening.

I went in for dinner one evening and the place was empty. After being seated, we ordered drinks right away and were given the menu. The help was hanging out at the bar laughing and joking, therefore we didn't get any. After 20 minutes and they still hadn't come to take our order, we got up and left. We tried to get the staff's attention to pay for our drinks, but ended up leaving a few bucks at the bar. Come on, we were the only 2 people in the place, how hard would it have been to make sure we were taken care of properly? We left and went to Jennie lowes where the service and food were great and we left a huge tip!

This is a classy Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Mill Valley. Packed with locals and tourists alike, everyone can enjoy the good service and excellent food here. Four stars not five because the menu can be a little bit boring at times. My favorite item on the menu are the cheese and spinach raviolis which melt in your mouth! Try the amazing deserts here too.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
